not when you've backed yourself so far into the corner with this limited roster. You now need cheap bodies unless this FO/Ownership wants to pay the tax.
The most frustrating thing is looking at this roster and saying ,” how the hell are we even approaching cap limit ?” Like how do the Celtics, Lakers, Clippers , Knicks afford those rosters and we’re looking at Paolo and Franz and saying crap how do we add to this.
Wendell and Caldwell-Pope signings mostly were just mediocre moves that ate up all wiggle room for creativity. That plus building around 3 huge contracts in current NBA is hard.
It's doable though they just gotta be smart. For instance when Paolo's extension kicks in I have them around 190 mil for 8 players (if they decline Jett's option) in 26/27. 1st apron is at 215 mil then. That's assuming they don't make any picks the next two years.
So 25 million for 7 spots. To me that seems really really rough without rookie contracts on board. That's why I personally still value picks.
BINGO.. they'll start to use 2nd round picks for roster fodder as well. The out right now is possibly moving Cole + WCJ in the summer with a pick for something bigger. Here's a serviceable big, a 1st, and an expiring who won't hurt you long term. The question is who would be available and if they'd even value what we have to give.
I'll be shocked if they do anything during the deadline the more I crunch numbers and look at the next 2 years salary/tax. The next move almost has to be the all in move unless Ownership is willing to pay tax dollars.
