Warriors Reenter Trade Talks With Heat On Jimmy Butler

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Jan 28, 2025 10:32 pm

The Miami Heat have engaged in trade talks on Jimmy Butler with multiple teams including the Golden State Warriors and Phoenix Suns.

"The Heat are engaged with multiple teams on Jimmy Butler including, from what I'm told, the Phoenix Suns and the Golden State Warriors," said Shams Charania on Tuesday. "The heat are operating in the landscape as a team that's motivated with interested suitors. And as far as a price tag on Jimmy Butler goes, it's been described to me in league circles that the Heat are looking for shorter term contracts along with draft assets. And they have not yet received a offer that they're moving forward with, but the trade deadline looms on February 6th."

The Warriors were linked with Butler over the offseason and in December, but they were believed to have backed out of discussions with the Suns being the primary suitor.

As a Warriors fan I would trade Kuminga and expiring contracts for Jimmy Butler. It may not help then win this season, and he may be gone soon, but it least it doesn't sacrifice the rebuild, which is probably overdue.

The Schroder trade hasn't panned out for GSW as they had hoped and he's able to be traded again.

I wonder if the Lakers can get involved with their Butler talks to send Schroder and perhaps Looney to LA while sending out Rui and whichever other players and picks to Miami - assuming Riley would prefer that over just taking those players for his own roster.

Schroder can be a great addition or a distraction for a locker room depending on whether a team embraces him. He tends to wear his emotions on his sleeve, so to speak.

Anyways, just a thought...

Is this a scenario where Butler ends up with LeGM?

Curious -- do you prefer Schroder and Looney to Rui and pieces ?

I believe this works (financially):

Lakers get Schroder + Looney
Lakers lose Rui + salary (Jax or Shake or Reddish or Wood)

Warriors get Jimmy
Warriors lose Wiggins + Looney + Schroder + salary (could be TJD or Santos)

Heat get Randle+Rui
Heat lose Jimmy

Trash

Agree -- not my idea and none of it makes sense for anyone in my mind

Riley should want picks and to let Jovic and Ware keep developing chemistry with Bam -- Begley insists he wants Randle.

Minnesota shouldn't be blowing up their 2025 plan to save 3M with Wiggins.

Warriors are overpaying for Butler bc they have to move out salary to make room for him over the cap.

It's a lose lose lose

But this is what the media is floating

Rui is overhyped by Lakers fans. He is a terrible defender most of the time. They keep referring to him as a wing. He is 100% a PF and only that. So, he is extremely redundant on a team where AD keeps crying to play the 4 spot more, Bron is a 4 at this stage of his career and then you have both DFS and Vando that can play either forward spot. The only thing Rui provides is solid offensive output, but even that is inconsistent.

So yes, I would 100% prefer Shroder on this roster that is extremely weak in PoA defense even if his offense is streaky.

Looney is limited and would only slot as a backup center option. Yet, he's better than what Pelinka has provided in terms of backup depth.

I'm not lauding this as some sort of major solution trade. But, it does help LA balance their roster somewhat and LA shouldn't need to be coughing up draft assets when they're giving up Rui in the deal. Maybe a 2nd rounder and cash to help Miami waive someone.

lol no thank you. Helping to route Jimmy to GSW.

You'll never see me offering trade ideas based on what Bron cares about.

The post-Bron era for LA can't happen fast enough.
