I wonder if the Lakers can get involved with their Butler talks to send Schroder and perhaps Looney to LA while sending out Rui and whichever other players and picks to Miami - assuming Riley would prefer that over just taking those players for his own roster.
Schroder can be a great addition or a distraction for a locker room depending on whether a team embraces him. He tends to wear his emotions on his sleeve, so to speak.
Anyways, just a thought...
Curious -- do you prefer Schroder and Looney to Rui and pieces ?
I believe this works (financially):
Lakers get Schroder + Looney
Lakers lose Rui + salary (Jax or Shake or Reddish or Wood)
Warriors get Jimmy
Warriors lose Wiggins + Looney + Schroder + salary (could be TJD or Santos)
Heat get Randle+Rui
Heat lose Jimmy
Rui is overhyped by Lakers fans. He is a terrible defender most of the time. They keep referring to him as a wing. He is 100% a PF and only that. So, he is extremely redundant on a team where AD keeps crying to play the 4 spot more, Bron is a 4 at this stage of his career and then you have both DFS and Vando that can play either forward spot. The only thing Rui provides is solid offensive output, but even that is inconsistent.
So yes, I would 100% prefer Shroder on this roster that is extremely weak in PoA defense even if his offense is streaky.
Looney is limited and would only slot as a backup center option. Yet, he's better than what Pelinka has provided in terms of backup depth.
I'm not lauding this as some sort of major solution trade. But, it does help LA balance their roster somewhat and LA shouldn't need to be coughing up draft assets when they're giving up Rui in the deal. Maybe a 2nd rounder and cash to help Miami waive someone.
