Yeah, I think easing some of the burden off of Wemby, and enabling the team to rely a little less completely on Paul, are both going to be very valuable things going for them.

this is really rough return for the kings, two FRP (only one of which i project to be actually valable) and an overpaid Lavine. Bulls already tried Demar/Lavine/offense center, why do the Kings think it will work better for them?

I don't love Fox but the price is so low for the Spurs. They didn't give up any of their actual valuable picks or young players. Wemby is honestly too good to tank, they might as well improve the roster.

I just can't wait to see what it will be like to have another legit scoring threat (and a clutch one too). Spurs have lost sooo many games this year in the 4th because they had no other reliable scoring options. This also allows someone like Vassell who is not suited to being a #2 to slide into a role as third option. I wonder if a playoff push is out of the question...

I hope they trade Vassell, KJ or Sochan for a quality big. The amount of games they lost because wemby went to the bench and the other team went on a 10-0 run is endless. Plus wemby needs more rest.

And what is funny are the hawk fans thinking the spurs would overpay for trae young with their picks back and huge assets

Spurs would never rush the rebuild with low value trade

It’s still early in Wembys career but man I think they could easily make a few moves now to make them a threat in the west. They have the salaries and picks to get someone like Rob Will as a back up centre, and an Ingram or Cam Johnson/Nesmith type wing player/s and be a real squad in year 2 of Wemby.

Or just throw some picks at Butler or KD! lol

Fox is so overrated on this board. He is about to be just as overpaid as Lavine if not more so. I am not seeing the huge downgrade.

This. Lavine actually has the numbers to show that he is an elite scorer. Fox just has the reputation of being an elite scorer. He will be an albatross once he is extended.

Ya a healthy Zach is in the same tier of talent as Fox IMO.

Fox has startlingly bad advanced stats for a guy that is talked up like a Tier 1 NBA talent.

Not the biggest LaVine fan. Kings couldn't get Vassell out of this?

2019 forward, he's been at 24.6 ppg on 60.1% TS, but he's been pretty inconsistent from year to year. TS+ has warbled: 103, 101, 111, 107, 104, 100, 111. It ebbs and flows with his specific 3P% and whether or not he's drawing fouls in a given season, and he's played more than 63 games just twice in that span. He had a peak year in 2021, but he's mostly like a +2 O-EPM guy, not far off from De'Aaron Fox in that respect. Generally under 1 PlayVal and ScoreVal, Passer Rating around 5, Box Creation around 8.

Fox is generally a net 0 ScoreVal guy, PlayVal 1.5 - 2.0. Box Creation around 11, Passer Rating around 7. Bit of a down year this year overall: PlayVal 0.8, ScoreVal -0.1 Passer Rating 6.4, Box Creation 9.8. 15.8 Drives/36. Lavine this year: 9.1 Box Creation, 4.9 Passer Rating, PlayVal 0.3, ScoreVal 0.7, 9.6 Drives/36.

Just food for thought.

"Elite" is probably a little aggressive for him in terms of scoring. There are 14 guys in the league posting 23+ PTS75 with 1,000+ MP and A ScoreVal of 0.7 or higher. He's ranked 14th among those. The top 8 are all 1.0+ ScoreVal and most of them are better creators as well. He has the lowest Passer Rating among them aside from Normal Powell, as well as the lowest PTS75. 4th-worst PlayVal. Lowest BPM by far, too.

Some things to consider, anyway. There are reasons Lavine's reputation is what it is despite some fairly impressive efficiency numbers. And obviously the playmaking stuff isn't scoring, but it does paint the picture of why his impact isn't really there to the same extent.

I don’t think they wanted Vassell. LaVine is a better player and only a 2 year commitment, Vassell locks you in for 4 years.

I like the Fox trade alot, regardless of how little they had to give back to get him, I just think Fox is going to be percieved very differently in a few years. playing his career in Sactown and playing for nothing, isn't the same as the current situation he's in and he's gonna excell in that enviornment imo

imo u guys are gonna be winning alot of games starting rn, gonna be fun to be a Spurs fan :)
a playoff push isn't out of the question imo, you'll be in the playoffs barring injuries and might win a series or two

Agreed. Fox is one of those few guys that can get in a zone that is about unstoppable. I think it’s a dream in San Antonio rn

I'm sure there's much more to being a GM than making trades. Even if that's all they do, the pressure has to be insane, unless you don't care about being fired or your reputation.

If Fox is so good and Sabonis finished top 10 in MVP a couple years in a row - why can the Kings barely make the PO (if that?)

Fox is very overrated. Definitely not the second coming of Tony Parker for the Spurs, but will help them. Not sure why the Kings didn't get CP3. He would fit right in with their lineup.
