The beauty of Scottie Barnes. Tells Dick to get out of the paint. Side screen action with Poeltl draws attention away from Walter on the weakside. Then he drives left to bring Harden toward him, knowing that would open up Walter and then delivers the pass for the dunk. All intentional. This is the stuff the stats doesn’t capture.
not strong, only aggresive cuz the power ain't directed/ that's why, we are subjected to the will of the oppressive

Really impressed by him lately. Steady effort, that mid range is reliable, seems like he's taking a leader role and people are giving him the ball.

If Scottie keeps this up, he might become my GROAT.

I like his all around game better than any previous star we have drafted.

Yeah that was beautiful, he made that decision the second he saw Harden hedging, this is the kind of play making no one else on the team brings, not all assists are created equal.

There are very few players in the league with his playmaking instincts.

Their upper half yeah. Kawhi got blessed with a proportionate body in terms of upper body and legs.

Scottie got cursed with tall ass legs lol, makes a lot. Makes a lot of his athleticism inaccessible.

His stats are almost identical to last year pre-All Star game.

All Star 20.1pts, 8.1reb, 6asts, 1.5blk, 1.2stl
No Star 20.1pts, 8.1reb, 6.4asts, 0.9blk, 1.4stl

His efficiency is worse this year but it also took a hit playing with the bad ankle and broken face for a month.

And of course last year he had Siakam to draw more attention from teams vs RJ this year and OG as a shooter last year vs Gradey...or Ochai this year.

Given that it's the 1st time where he actually is expected to help lead, he has played very well. And he has been very good defensively since his ankle fully healed up.

Yes.. THAT "star" .. the one who has taken this team to 5th worst record in the NBA... that type of "6'8" Lowry star".... lol... if Vince had HALF this level of talent around him back then, Raptors would be finals favorites... every year. VINCE WAS A Generational Superstar... Man, so glad I had seasons tickets then... what we have now is a joke ... putting lipstick on a pig ... lol

Scottie is a good player, but like Lowry, carried NO ONE. .. but hopefully with a top 5 pick, then next 'one' may facilitate that... leap...

He's better this year compared to last but it's not the major leap people hoped for. That's all. If he continues getting incrementally better year after year then it's still a very good outcome.

As a scorer, he isn't. He's considerably less efficient. Draw rate and 3pt rate have been the same, obviously the fall-off from 3 is a big issue. But he's still not getting to the rim enough. The improvement as a mid-range shooter is nice, but he's regressed in enough areas that he's under 54% TS, which is pretty bad, and definitely worse than last season. I guess it's a learning season and he's showcasing a new skill which we were asking for him to develop, but he's pretty objectively not better this year than last year. Offensive impact is, across the board, worse as well.

Once again, we find ourselves in a season where our greatest hope is next year with him. This feels like DeRozan all over again, where he's inching his way forward without huge improvement every year. There are some positives to take away from the season, but net improvement is not one of them at this point.

EDIT: The last few games have been really good, though, so we'll see how the rest of the season goes.

We seem to compete even when he’s not playing all that great. Imagine if he really took a leap forward in his offensive repertoire we’d be talking playoffs.
2019 Eastern Conference All Stars

Derozan
Lowry
Ibaka
Valanciunas
Van Vleet
Delon Wright
Lebron
Embiid

There are only 2 teams in the league that rank in the top 6 in offensive and defensive efficiency: the Golden State Warriors and the Toronto Raptors.

A Scottie that is at or above league average TS% is a top-15 player.

There is no guarantee he gets to that level. He hasn't improved much if at all this year. I don't see the specialness with Barnes, we should be considering him tradeable for the right package.

Agreed. Not only has he not shown abything special as a scorer, he's actually regressed this season. I still think there is potential for him to figure things out, but he's running out of time. He's going to be in his fifth season next year, and if by that point he hasn't figured it out, I think it's safe to say he probably never will.

He can still be a useful player without the ability to score efficiently, but that's a role player and this team needs a star.

Damn, that was hella disappointing. I thought he made a Doncic-level eyes behind the head type of play based on your descriptions.

You guys are talking about how he ran a play at the top of the arc, drove 1-2 steps and passed to a painfully obvious wide open Ja’Kobe cutting to the basket right in front of him right?
