Winning 1 game against OKC doesn't make me believe we are contenders. The entire season as a whole proves to me we are not. And it's now been 1.5 years and we've not moved more towards being a contender.

I don’t think 35 year old, primadonna, Jimmy Butler is moving the needle much this year. This roster has a lot of flaws beyond just getting rid of Middleton and calling it a day.

I honestly can’t understand how anyone can watch this team and think we’re a trade away from winning a title. Respectfully, that’s pure delusion, in my opinion.

If you go on bball index and filter it so it only shows players classified on defense as "wing stoppers," you will learn two things:

1. There are not a lot of defensive wing stoppers who qualify as legit two way players.

2. Jimmy, even at 35, playing on a team he has no interest in, is at the top of the list when you sort by overall impact (per game, not cumulative).

Those things can be true and still not move the needle closer to a championship these season. If you think Jimmy Butler is the answer to all the team’s problems and the key to a title, then I’d have to question whether you’ve actually been watching games.

I dont put much stock into pre deadline games in late Jan/early feb. I cant imagine the motivation level is super high right now. To that end, no, i havent watched any games lately.

I know what Giannis and Dame will be in the playoffs. Take traffic cone Khris out, put in a legitimate defender who can playmake and score as the third option.

Yeah, i love that.

Jimmy not spending all of his energy to will the team to victory is a Jimmy who can go four rounds.

This is the same Bucks team that just got dominated by the San Antonio Spurs. Yes, a deadline deal can improve the team. But saying this team is a championship contender? C’mon man.

The wiretap article about Butler blocking multiple trades to other teams is interesting, and not surprising. Does Silver chime in on this like he did when Dame was wanting to only go to Miami?

The motivation level hasn’t been there all season, short of the NBA Cup. This is not a serious team.

I would love for someone to explain to me how this Bucks team plus Butler and minus Middleton and Bobby gets past the top teams in the East.

They haven’t shown they are capable of that level of consistency all season. They’re not just going to turn it on.

To be fair you just mentioned they have only looked motivated in the NBA cup. Unfortunately this is modern NBA, a lot of vets don't go all in for the regular season anymore. They save their body. I'd rather just see a couple changes and role with it. We haven't had a healthy Giannis in the playoffs in years, people keep forgetting that we've had injury issues and just assume we suck. We have holes, but we also have 2 superstars and we have more assets than we get credit for. Just gotta decide are we all in? Or are we going to retool or rebuild?

At the very least, go after Banton from PDX or LaRavia from Memphis. This team needs more size and athleticism. I'd rather have them than Marjon and Wright.

Windhorst - "Jimmy Butler’s only goal is to get to Phoenix, and no amount of money or a role on a different team will change his mind. He wants Phoenix and Phoenix only."

Damn so PHX is just like real life it's where the old guys go to retire. Beal won't leave and Jimmy won't accept anywhere else. 2 days left just make a move, hope we aren't waiting for Riley to deal us a disgruntled Butler who won't resign here.

What do you need to see in the regular season to consider the Bucks a contender? 60 wins? 58 wins? How did those seasons turn out? The season is a marathon. Injuries will play a role for everyone. Just get to the playoffs healthy. As a long-time Bucks fan, I have a really good idea of what 'not a contender' looks like. With a healthy Dame and Giannis, this team has a chance.

Well, this seems pretty self-explanatory. Current broken down Khris and "playoff Bobby" isn't much of a loss if you're replacing them with a legitimate All-Star caliber two-way wing even if he is old. Significant defensive improvement that can slide in at PF when Giannis goes to the 5 (no longer have to rely on Prince as much), and at worst a lateral offensive player/shot-creator. Beyond the obvious attitude concerns, I can't fathom anyone not seeing Jimmy as a significant upgrade to this team from an on-court perspective.

Ouch.

A quick poll of NBA executives conducted by The Athletic for this story estimated the current price to dump Connaughton’s contract is three or four second-round picks or a late first-round pick in the next few seasons.

Among all the young players, I would least like to trade AJ Johnson (and AJ Green also). Marjon, ajax, rollins Livingston, even Tyler could be traded for a strong poa defender.

I’m not advocating for Kuzma at all but I have to say that I don’t find that contract bad at all, I’d actually consider it “team friendly”. He makes 23m and the contract depreciates over the next 3yrs down to 19m when he expires. I wouldn’t consider that all that bad in today’s NBA. And, again not advocating here but he actually checks out as more of a neutral defender by the numbers more so than “bad”. I think that’s a misconception he gets flamed for by the fans being stuck on a total **** show Wizards team. But you’re 100% accurate he can’t shoot now for whatever reason. Like Giannis % FT shooter now and a TS under 50%. Like, really bad.

So what you're saying to Siefer is that it''s a good contract, isn’t a bad defender and can't shoot. Still not very enticing.

That’s what I was saying lol

If we don’t give up the 2031 first, I think I’d actually make that trade IF there was nothing else available.

Jonas has a relatively high rebounding percentage and might allow you to trade Bobby or Brook. It would shake things up a bit, and both guys contracts are moveable.

Yeah I'd do a Pat/Midds for Kuz/JV swap straight up
