I knew Grimes was probably gone but i don't agree with this at all... Grimes is a better defender on the perimeter something this team will badly need moving forward. How do you keep going with Kyrie/Dinwiddie backcourt, how dumb do you have to be?
Nico is smoking something this week.

However... Grimes+SRP for Caleb Martin. Good move.
But we still need an alpha man... And we had him 2 day ago.

I'm not sure how I feel about the move but Caleb Martin has a little more grit than Grimes, imo. Martin (i believe, if my memory serves me ) was part of that Miami team that beat Boston some years back to go to the finals. He played tough defense and hit timely shots. I like his grit. I cannot say how I feel about this right now until I see him on the court. But from a salary perspective his last year is 27-28 and grimes wouldnt sign an extension. he fits into the kyrie/ad timeline that ends in 2028.
Note: He had a great game 7 vs Boston on the road in 23'. Like I said, I like his grit and I feel he plays a little more under control and more sure of himself than Grimes...but ultimately they wanted to get something for Grimes(comparable) because he wasn't gonna re-sign.

I actually think Grimes is the better player...played lesa minutes, more points, better fg%...the only reason they did this trade is cause Martin is locked up while Grimes is a FA

I don't think it's about who's better. I think with Grimes being RFA, all it takes is one team to go pay him a bit more than what you want, then you're on the clock deciding if you want to match or have him walk for nothing.

Grimes is probably the more talented player...but there's a reason he's been on like 3 teams in his short career thus far. He's a little too unsure of himself at times which leads to the turnovers and bad defense. Martin is a gritter player and has shown that he can step up in big games. Overall, I'm satisfied and probably trust Martin a little more than Grimes as a gamer. Let's see what other moves Nico makes.
Note: One more thing that needs to be said. You need guys here under contract not playing for a contract. Sometimes when guys are playing for that contract they dont make the right pass or the right play all the time. This is also a contract move but also a culture one.

I think Naji is gonna get traded too and one of the C's...the guard lineup is terrible

Those stats are great. I still think he plays too unsure of himself at times. I saw what Martin did in a big series vs Boston. Not taking anything away from Grimes.

The biggest question going into the TDL is whether Dwight Powell will get traded or continue to stay as a Mav. My money is on staying. The fact that this guy has outlasted literally every Mavs player, including Luka, is wild

Mavs 'have dreams' of adding Kevin Durant
League sources say the Dallas Mavericks, fresh off their Luka Dončić-for-Anthony Davis swap that sent shockwaves through the Association, have dreams of adding Durant to their Davis-Kyrie Irving-led group. While the likelihood of Dallas pulling this off now appears unlikely, the mere idea of Durant joining Dallas’ star-studded group sheds new light on the thinking of Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison after he was roundly ridiculed for the Dončić deal. – via New York Times

Anyone is allowed to dream. I had a dream about Nico being shot in the head. Two shots too. I woke up and instantly had a good mood.
Everyone has a right to be stupid. Some just abuse the privilege.

He might have a better shot to acquire KD if he got a huge haul for Luka.
OTOH, Anthony Edwards said Luka is the best scorer in the NBA so why trade him away and now try to add a 36-year old scorer instead?

If they trade for KD, that means PJ/Gafford/Klay and all draft capital is gone. Basically changing Mavs in Suns in one week. And Suns apparently wanting out of that awful situation. After 2 years, Mavs will the worse team in the league for 10 years. Destruction of Mavs future in a week.

I think Butler, Isaac and Thybulle make way more sense now.

Re: Dallas Mavericks 2024 Trade thread -- Roster and Cap post 24 FA
I really don't think highly of a lineup featuring Kyrie-Klay-KD. The 3K lineup is not really better than previous lineup. Butler as a rental without giving out significant assets is a good one. The Mavs has only 3 months window anyway as a playin team. If the Mavs misses the playoff, they could still rebuild with a massive salary dump trade for Butler.
