Jimmy Butler Traded By Heat To Warriors, Agrees To Two-Year, $121M Extension

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Feb 6, 2025 1:28 am

The Golden State Warriors have acquired Jimmy Butler from the Miami Heat and have also agreed to a new two-year, $121 million extension with him. Butler is declining his 25-26 player option for his new contract.

The Warriors are trading out Andrew Wiggins, Dennis Schroder, Kyle Anderson, Lindy Waters III and a protected first round pick to the Heat for Butler.

Butler had been seeking a trade since December and preferred a deal to the Phoenix Suns, but the Warriors were one of the original teams on his list.

Will Jimmy and Draymond be friends or tank the team? Next up on the NBA.

I had doubts this would happen. Butler realized his options were limited. I don't think he gives GS enough, but props to them for making another run. Money be dammed. That's what teams should do. They can rebuild in 2 years.
Go Knicks!! Go Mets!!

As for the Jets . . . just keep it entertaining.

Lol Dunleavy just wasted three 2nd rounders by trading for Dennis and then trading him essentially for a dead weight expiring contract. If he had just kept Melton, he could have just used his expiring contract instead.

Good luck to him.

I'm sure with his won-nothing, self-absorbed, malcontent culture he'll fit in seamlessly at his new club. I wonder how long before he exits in much the same way he has on every club he's been at so far.

It's not a bad trade for the Ws, if Butler stay healthy. He clearly will be motivated to prove people wrong, and his fiery side actually matches up well with Green. That fire is what makes the team play hard on D when directed the right way. Ws hasn't been doing well because Curry is literally the only one who could generate offense. Wiggins did okay but never a very good passer. Schroder wasn't his Nets self due to Kerr's desire to turn him into Jason Kidd instead of a scoring first guard. Butler is giving the Ws exactly what's needed, a guy who could generate offense and pass.

It'll take just as long as it'll take Riley to have an ugly ending with his top player once again

$60 million+ a year for two years is way too much for an ageing out Butler.

I'm guessing it was either overpaying him for 2 years, or paying him still a lot of money for 3 or 4 years.

He is absolutely not worth 60+ millions per year but it's still a less painful option for the Warriors.
