What were you expecting to get for Sims or did you want to hold onto him or something else?
I wasn't expecting to get anything. I actually thought they would just try to get a 2nd round pick and open a roster spot.
By taking on Wright they will are right up against the 2nd apron where they can't add much. So yes I wasn't expecting much of a return but I think adding more of a guard glut doens't make sense unless they move another piece. Which is possible.
I half expected NY to give up a 2nd round pick to shed Sims' salary. Not joking. You don't just get a team to take 2 million dollars without paying something to make it happen.
As for Wright, I said it above. This feels very lateral. Didn't add much of anything or give up much of anything.

Nice that they brought in someone to push Brunson. No one is safe.
Aller collects euro point guards that won't play in the NBA like some people collect stamps
Didn’t we draft a coach once? He was a coach already, and we got his draft rights lol

We miraculously added a million to the payroll…

This is the part I don’t get. Is it because it’s midway through the season so the $1mm contract difference is smaller due to pro rating? Therefore it fits into that $500k room we had available? I thought either way it wasn’t possible to trade a contract even a dollar higher?

Any vet (like Delon) who signs a 1 year deal, gets counts to the cap the same as the minimum salary of a 2nd year player. the nba pays the rest of the salary. its to prevent teams only signing young players to save money.
https://www.hoopsrumors.com/2024/06/nba-minimum-salaries-for-2024-25.html
if you see on spotract delons cap hit is $2,087,519 but also shows his base salary as $3,003,427
https://www.spotrac.com/nba/new-york-knicks/cap/_/year/2024/sort/cap_total
so the nba is paying the 900kish on his contract.

I could be wrong, but I think Wright can fill the same need that Charlie Brown, DaQuan Jeffries & Duane Washington Jr. played last year in making the KAT trade work. He can be used as salary cap filler. Sims probably couldn't because I believe Sims would be a full free agent next year and probably signs for more than the Vet minimum, cap filler role.
At least, that's how I make sense of this trade. They didn't need Sims and Wright can be used in trade this summer while Sims might not have filled that role. Does that make sense?

Luv those Knicks wrote:I don't think this is thread-worthy. Maybe in the off-season when we discuss summer league, but here's a pretty good write-up on Besson. I'd put him in the Joku category. An interesting guy to watch and invite to summer league but give him a low probability of making Knicks NBA roster.

I wouldn't be shocked if he makes it to the NBA, but I wouldn't be shocked if he doesn't. Looks kind of fun though.
