I wasn't expecting to get anything. I actually thought they would just try to get a 2nd round pick and open a roster spot.

By taking on Wright they will are right up against the 2nd apron where they can't add much. So yes I wasn't expecting much of a return but I think adding more of a guard glut doens't make sense unless they move another piece. Which is possible.

I half expected NY to give up a 2nd round pick to shed Sims' salary. Not joking. You don't just get a team to take 2 million dollars without paying something to make it happen.

As for Wright, I said it above. This feels very lateral. Didn't add much of anything or give up much of anything.

We miraculously added a million to the payroll…

Maybe the Knicks need that extra mill to complete a trade.

We'll see.

doesnt add mil to payroll
delon counts 2 mil to cap and 2 mil paid by knicks/bucks (nba hq pays him the extra 1 mil which doesnt count toward cap)
sims counts 2 mil to cap and gets paid 2 mil by the knicks/bucks.

Brunson/Payne/Kolek/Wright is way too many guards then add in Deuce and Shamet who are also smaller guards.

I would assume something else is going to happen to better balance out the roster.

I hope you’re right.

Highly doubt McBride being on the move. If you look at his salary, there simply aren't too many players that can provide his shooting and defense that make a similar amount. Usually those type of players make already twice or triple the amount.

Plus the cash Milwaukee is sending. Plus Besson if you believe in him. I have no idea who might be more interesting, Besson or Lessort, or which team wanted that swap.

But as I posted above. I think Wright is a trade chip this summer while Sims would probably have been a free agent and not as easily traded. Wright would take a vet minimum deal again and be swapable as a throw in to make salaries balance. Like the 3 players we threw in to make the KAT trade work.

He's this year's Shake Milton. Well, to some degree the Knicks had some injury depth concerns when they got Shake, but they used Shake as part of the trade for Bridges, I think.

So, I think you are right. This is probably to set the team up with some flexibility.

Kind of meh, but is what it is

We need a big defensive wing who can occasionally hit a 3 or a backup big.

What do we do?

Trade for a guard.

New York Knicks everyone.

It doesn’t move the needle much in the long run, but it would have been nice to get a decent upside 2nd for Sims, as our stash of 2nds is limited.

On the other hand, now we no longer have to see Sims on the basketball court.

I’m not sure how Delon Wright fits, and I think what Payne brings as a backup PG is more valuable. Unless NY has a Duce deal coming up and needs Wights defense, this move is blah

Take those scrap minutes Shamet was getting? At least he plays defense and Shamet was doing nothing on offense.

Wow, you gave me a Mandella moment. Here I thought Shammet WAS Shake and we just picked him up again!
