Grimes- 10 PPG on 46/40/77 splits
Deuce- 9 PPG on 41/36/84 splits.

I was going to post this but decided against it cause making fun of players that meLo stans supercedes being rational.

Grimes definitely could have been more assertive but its odd how close his per 100 numbers were last year in a down season for the Knicks when compared to McBride's number this year.
Grimes was also doing it while playing next to guys like Brunson, RJ, Randle and IQ who aren't exactly great at moving the ball and having to play the role of point of attack defender in the starting lineup against everyone from Lillard to Edwards to Tatum.
They didn't have to make a financial decision to keep one over the other. They could have kept both as cheap depth pieces. He is currently making less than Deuce and $15M per year on 2 young 3 and D guys would have been a bargain if they could have accomplished that especially on a team that lacks 2-way players.

Grimes shot 37% fg, 33.8% from 3 last year. He was awful and got benched. He was much worse then Deuce.
He had opportunities just couldn't make shots . I think Grimes can still pan out but he's on his 4th team and just requested a trade because he wasn't getting minutes she he wants to get paid. No way he would have been happy getting 15min here and he's looking for a pay day.
Knicks are right up against the apron and don't want to go over so every penny counts. They had to make tough decisions but I'm not losing sleep over Grimes. If he wasn't traded last year he would have been traded this year anyway.

Even when Grimes got benched the Brunson/RJ/Randle pairing performed much worse with DDV because the defense was atrocious. We could have used his defense this year and last postseason even if his shooting didn't come back around but i'm not sure if he would have been healthy enough to return by the playoffs.
When they traded Grimes last year he had a true shooting percentage of 54.3% and 36.4% from 3. McBride currently has a 54.6 TS% while shooting 36.3% from 3. The Knicks are now giving minutes and money to fringe rotation guys like Payne, Shamet and Precious. Mitch is still getting paid to be unavailable and the starters have logged heavy minutes. I think they could have found some minutes and money for Grimes.
They couldn't even find someone to take the $5.2M Taxpayer MLE last off-season and just threw the remaining money under the apron at Precious after a month of free agency. I'd rather have Grimes this year than Precious at $6M to be a guy with no real strengths and could easily be out of the rotation if Mitch returns. It's not like it's an IQ situation where you hear Grimes wants to start and get $25M-30M+ per year.

Hey, ease up on my young cheap 3 and D role players while they are still developing. I'm trying to resist pulling up this year's on-off numbers to slander your guy Hart's impact this yearThe Knicks are in no position to be turning their nose up at any quality rotational player.

had to sneak in that "while they are still developing" cause the 3 and D has been rough lately. and slandering jHart to take the focus off deuce having a bad year is nasty work. i like deuce and hope he can get right. it's just frustrating that we don't have a consistent solid rook - ever. I get that players go in slumps or get injured but it seems fairly extreme with us.
