Lauri Markkanen
Lauri will turn 28 during this season...
This is the first year of his new 5-year contract. It starts at +-42 million which will increase to 53 in the 28/29 season.
He is having his best moment on a deep lottery team that is far from competing.
Since you are on a team that has no incentive to win, it will probably be difficult to stay 100% motivated and your performance could easily take a nosedive...
19.3 ppg/6.2reb/1.7 ast in shooting divisions
42%(fg)/35.1% (3p)/86.4(ft)
In this answer, I think the best thing for everyone would be if they moved him this summer. What teams do you think would be interested and what kind of offers would you make?

I think he would fit very well (at least on paper) with the Pistons/Hornets or Spurs

I like that, Maybe (after the Pistons pay off their draft debt this summer) they send a future FRP and keep Ivey? Ivey was progressing this year with the PISTONS and the JAZZ don't really need him, they have their own prospects (Collier/K.George) this draft is loaded with good guards and they still have Sexton/Clarkson.... what's up..
Harris (possibly divert to 3 team?)/Holland+Fontecchio+Futuro FRP

Add 3-4 1sts, and you're probably close.
Well at least we're not Detroit!

Definitely not going that far but he should be a target for Detroit

I think it’ll be SAS for one of there two lottery picks this year and a pick in 26.

I think that for the SPURS it would be better to pursue his teammate Collins...first of all it would be more economically sustainable, if they want to keep their core...Vassell has already been paid, they will soon have to extend and raise Fox's salary,...Collins expires before they pay VW/Castle and they could surely renew him for less money...on the court Collins gives them more interior presence, a better rebounder and they can use him as a backup 5...he will also be cheaper to keep and they could keep him their next 2 lottery picks, which will probably be the last ones they have... after building a contender

Lauri's sucked this year and his contract is too enormous to risk giving up real stuff for. His value is currently an expiring and a pick in the teens so he won't be moved.

I think this is a big overpay for someone like Lauri Markkanen who, as talented as he is, we haven't seen play in high-leverage situations, we haven't seen his offense schemed against in a playoff series and we haven't seen offenses scheme against him defensively.
For me the easy comparison is Siakam. Siakam was a player who is a similar caliber regular season player as Lauri, though better defender and playmaker, not quite the shooter, but also has proven to be a big-time playoff performer as a two-way second option.
The Siakam trade was 3 picks and filler salary (not expiring) and 2 of the picks were guaranteed to not be lottery when the future pick was Top 4 protected.
I think that's a good starting point for Lauri, where the unknowns of Lauri's skill-set and playoff ability could potentially be sold and off-set by his longer contract. I think the Pacers knew we were extending Siakam, so I don't actually think that matters here but I'm sure the Utah fan base will instantly point to that as the great divide.

That was the very high end valuation at his peak value, he lost a lot of value due to contract/play.
Defense wins draft lotteries!

Re: Lauri Markkanen
No chance Lauri has Siakam's value last year at this point. Lauri has been significantly worse than John Collins this year, and no one wanted Collins on a 2/52 contract. If you trade for Lauri and he doesn't bounce back, you have destroyed your cap and you're completely screwed.
He's just not getting moved because his value has declined so much. He's worth an expiring and a pick in the teens and Ainge cannot do this.

Re: Lauri Markkanen
San Antonio Spurs
On paper, a perfect fit next to Fox/Wemby. Fox/Castle/Vassell/Lauri/Wemby is terrific but the lack of size gives me pause that San Antonio fully commits here, though Sochan as this weird Dennis Rodman-lite player helps some of the physicality and size issues.
Barnes + Keldon + Filler + #10 + 2028 SAS 1st (Top 4 protected)
Even I have reservations about this for the Spurs, but the positives are clear. Taking advantage of Barnes + Keldon salary gets them in range for a star. The reservations were mentioned above, and building slowly like Boston did in the late 2010s and how OKC has done while drafting well and trusting your process makes a ton of sense before the asset drain begins around a young star (See Minnesota, but maybe ANT is just that good? Maybe Minnesota isn't a good example since they got to the WCF last year).
Detroit Pistons
Tobias + Filler + Young guys (Holland + Ivey) + 1 future 1st with light protection
Memphis
I don't really understand what they are doing. They need to be all-in around Ja since he is injury prone and isn't projected to have a long prime. Lauri is a great move the chips all-in move, but given how they acted this trade deadline, they don't seem to care about winning.
Memphis would also need to get creative with the salary matching, though the fit with Ja/Bane/3+D/Lauri/JJ is terrific.
Miami Heat
Talk about a dark horse. Lauri fits their timeline with Bam/Herro. Great fit next as a 4 next to Bam or Ware or at the 3.
Expiring in the form of some combination of Rozier + Robinson + SlowMo + GSW 2025 1st + Future 1st
OKC
I'll believe it when I see it. I don't think they want to commit salary to a player of Lauri's caliber when they need to pay Jdub and Chet.

Re: Lauri Markkanen
I expect that, based on his new contract and the season he's had, the interest in him and the value of the inbound offers will be less than what they were last summer. Consequently I don't see him being moved.

Re: Lauri Markkanen
Lauri's value is down now after performing worse than the prior year, and increasing in cost on the new contract. Ainge missed the boat if he wanted a trade, asked too much. If Utah wants to move him, this summer is not the time -- they need to do some winning and finding success for Lauri.

Re: Lauri Markkanen
Utah held onto him because they hope to keep him long term, not because Ainge was looking for a better offer, so let's get that straight.
If Utah strikes gold in the lottery, everything will be going as planned. Fans underestimate how much these teams don't want to be stuck in a long-term rebuild. Some people see "proper tanking" as losing every game by 40 so you can be dead last, while I think most teams prefer to lose while being somewhat competitive. If Utah lucks into Flagg, I believe they will be done with tanking and will start operating as a team trying to make the playoffs.
If Utah whiffs on their pick this year, then we can start talking about possibly trading Lauri, but I don't think it's a given, as teams still have to think about selling tickets. A total teardown to lose every game by 40 makes it extremely difficult to sell tickets. Having a player like Lauri helps with that, even when the team is losing at a high rate.

New York said Mitchell wasn't the guy you trade the sink for, then they traded it for Mikal, lol.
