has there been any leaked rumors for the raptors or other teams in the league that didnt happen for one reason or another?

We probably could've had Zeke Naji + a pick for Boucher, but Naji has Xtra years and he sucks, and those Xtra yrs would've put us in the tax if we got Ingram as well. So we punted on that,

Lal probably did call about Jakob but they don't have what it would take for us to move Jakob

imho, there's only one real glaring hole in terms of development and that's a backup center. (mogbo would be a small ball one but that's situational).

we are at least 2 deep in every position except center.

we have a surplus at sg/sf.

this draft could address that but most likely not. we may have to package up some wing rookies to get that center to develop.

We are 100% taking Khaman Maluach, especially if we don't take brake into the top4 this year

Yeah I wonder if their draft board already is ...

Flagg, Harper, Ace and then Malauch. Which is why they aren't stressing too hard right now.

There are some pretty serious red flags with Ace and Maluach at the moment, that Masai always stays far away from when selecting a prospect in the 1st round (post-Bruno mistake).

Although with Maluach, I do wonder if Masai could just decide to take the biggest risk he's taken with a 1st round pick with Bruno. The possible pre-existing connection to the player (Maluach is a Basketball without Borders Africa alumni) is tough to ignore, plus at least physically he has dream measurements for a Masai-type C.

I'm confident though that Masai would draft guys like Edgecombe and Jakucionis over both Ace and Maluach, they are actually producing like "Masai-type FRPs".

And guys like Derik Queen, Asa Newell, Collin Murray-Boyles and Kon Knueppel he would draft over at least Ace, not sure about Maluach though.

What are those red flags? I like Maluach from basic scouting videos but I haven’t watched enough college ball to make any kind of informed analysis so I’d be happy to hear about the negatives for both Maluach and Ace if you don’t mind.

For Maluach it's that his AST% and AST/TO ratio are way too poor for a "Masai-type", and not only that, considering how low his USG rate also is, it is even more concerningly low IMO.

For Ace it's the same as Maluach in terms of his AST% and AST/TO ratio being way too poor. Additionally, considering his play style and reported physical measurements, his FT rate being below 30% is also a pretty big red flag.

What these things suggest to me and why I think Masai stays away from guys like this, is both a low floor, and a low hit percentage in terms of upside (chance a player reaches their ceiling).

Anyone can of course feel free to disagree, but just know that since the website Barttorvik was shown to me during the 2023 draft cycle, I was able to create queries that filter for historical commonalities in what I like to refer to as "Masai-type FRPs".

Since I started used this website, I am 3 for 3 so far in identifying Raptors FRPs since then (Mogbo as pick #31 I considered to be a pseudo-FRP). My post about it in page 1 of the newest draft thread links to my track record for anyone who doesn't believe me.

Interesting I’ve never heard of that site. But to the point of Maluach. Most scouting videos I’ve seen on him mention that he shows signs of being a passing big on offence as well as possible stretch 5 abilities. From what I gather is his low usage is exactly because he’s on a stacked duke team I wouldn’t use that as a negative against him. From what I’ve heard Maluach is basically a 7’2 Chomche with an even longer wingspan. And I like what I’ve seen from Chomche.

I'm not saying the low usage is a negative, just that him having such a poor AST% and AST/TO ratio makes the low usage notable to me in a negative way, not that the low usage on it's own is a negative.

Here's what I want you to do youngRAPZ. Take a look at the below query I quickly threw together. It consists of every player ever drafted to the NBA with a season in college where their usage rate was below 16%, AST% below 5%, and AST/TO ratio worse than 0.5:

https://barttorvik.com/playerstat.php?link=y&minusage=16&minGP=1&minAst=5&minATO=0.5&minpick=60&year=all&minmin=0&start=-11101&end=all0501&usageSelect=-1&astSelect=-1&atoSelect=-1&pickSelect=-1

After looking at this query, tell me what your updated thoughts are on Khaman Maluach knowing he will end up on it.

The trade deadline has been over for a week and the last few pages of conversations in this thread belong in either the draft prospect or tanking threads. MODS: Why hasn't this been locked already?

Doesn’t look good based off that list but tbh advanced stats isn’t really my thing and I tend to slightly value eye test more. To each their own. So far he’s number 6 on my board only behind Flagg/Bailey/Harper/Edgecomb/Jak but I still take him over Jak at 5.
