I'm not surprised, he looked very mediocre during his stint coaching Team Canada.

Even in our championship run, it was our defense that won us the chip.

The offense was surprisingly meh considering the roster we had.

He's clearly a defensive coach, which took me a long time to get around to because he was in charge of our offense under Casey. There is a clip of Pat Bev telling a story about Kawhi asking him if he likes playing for Nurse. Pat says yes and Kawhi says "He lets you do whatever you want on offense, right?"

What's even more clear is that the guy is not a leader and has no ability to create and maintain a culture. He destroyed ours in front of our eyes and couldn't establish one on Philly. He hoped Lowry could bail him out again but did not realize that Casey and Masai were the ones that built that culture and gave Lowry the immense equity he had in that locker room in how they managed him.

As a Philly Flyers far for hockey(please save the laughs), I chat with a fair amount of 76ers fans. They can't understand where the great defense Nurse was known for with us, is in Philly.

The constantly talk how when they were playing the Raps before, there were tons of different schemes being run to keep the 76ers offense off guard. They said its non-existent in Philly.

I had told them that the offense should be good because...well at the time had Harden, Maxey, Harris and JE so you sort of knew how they would play doing their own thing. But I wrongly said he would hone in their defense.

And now, they looked checked out. As others mentioned, today could be his last game and few would be surprised

Would be pretty crazy if he is fired after a loss to the raptors, after he basically suggested he planned to leave the raps for PHI during that presser.

Yeah not sure people would guess that Darko could outlast Nurse.

But who knows now.

I haven't watched the game yet, did we guard Maxey really well or he was just having an off night?

Agreed

Last 20 games we're going to win 15 of em. and the other teams just arent.

The players and coaches don't tank - their money depends on it. The FO already got rid of their vets apart from Boucher. It is what it is now; if the young guys win, we can only cheer them on.

Someone already said this but I’ll say it again…

This game isn’t about Toronto winning, but rather Philly losing.

The Raptors have multiple rookies, 2-ways, 10 days playing significant minutes with a big man rotation of Mogbo, Robinson, and Chomche…I mean cone on Nick, Joel and Co.

At the end of the day, it was always going to come down to Masai & the FO deciding to sit guys intentionally or not, regardless of if they can play. Either that, or limiting their minutes.

The last stretch of the season will have to require blatant tanking moves in order to keep a strong draft position. We are definitely too good to be 5th worst with our full roster.

Exactly. The 76ers had 3 of the top 4 players and lost.

That's embarrassing.

We're going to be reconditioning Ingram for a fair amount of time. He's also injury prone so minute restriction is likely.

Yak also seems like a company man and understands the assignment. He literally said it straight up when the season started and people got pissed lol.

Very unhappy camper - if Toronto falls out of the top 5 picks and end up with a mediocre player it would be richly deserved - everyone else are deliberately tanking and the Raptors are going for meaningless wins - lost a lot of faith in the direction of this FO/Coaching staff.

Man I tried to tell yall about Nurse for years. Mediocre at best offensive system. Overrated tactician within any particular game. Stubborn to a fault. Doesn’t always have the right guys on the floor at key moments. Nurse’s best ability is in a long playoff series where he figures out the opponent by game four. The problem is he often turfs one or two of those first three games like he did with us against Orlando (game 1), Boston (game 2), Philly (game 1 and 3) and that can be enough to lose a series.

He’s got his strengths — game planning and defensive adjustments given the right personnel. But he’s not very good in too many other areas. He’ll be back to being an assistant after his next head coaching job doesn’t go well either.

One thing I’ll say though is nobody can win with Embiid. But they shouldn’t be this bad.
not strong, only aggresive cuz the power ain't directed/ that's why, we are subjected to the will of the oppressive

You saw who got minutes yesterday right? We can't help that Philly blew it. The FO/coaching staff can't start asking players to miss shots on purpose. You can only "tank" so much. I'm happy our coaching staff has the guys playing hard. Darko definitely tried to "tank" to some extent with some of these lineups. Did you think he would sit Scottie/IQ in the 4th? What kind of message are you sending to your team by sitting those two in a 1-2 possession game.

He was uncharacteristically passive all night. I mean, I want to give credit to our defense but the 76ers look like a team that's given up on Nick Nurse. Maxey, Paul George, and even Embiid who was camping at the 3pt line in the closing mins of the game. Embiid's resistance from the paint features our rookie bigs in Mogbo, Ulrich, and Orlando.....

If you listen to the NBA community, they had 3 of the top 3...

I still think we need some minute caps even recognizing it's very hard for a coach to do so when a player is hot and have the player accept it

They are very candid and I have yet to hear one player who gives AF about tanking. They actually find it offensive, that they should buy into the notion of a f***ing rookie coming in to take their, or their good buddy's, job.

Scottie was on a heater and yanking him down the stretch would be a surefire way to get him to start thinking about his next team. We can debate why this game seemingly meant more to Scottie, but it clearly did and there was nothing we could do. We had 5 rookies play significant minutes against their full team. There is no way the Sixers should have lost this game.

This, imagine someone telling u to not perform at ur job so an intern can take ur place or your favourite work buddy's place.

I think the Raptors FO understands how important the 2025 draft is for them, they need to secure a high level player on a rookie contract. I'm pretty confident they will be rolling out bench/g-league lineups in March. The fact that they played Chomche against the Sixers kind of confirms that, I wasn't even expecting them to play him this early.

So no PG thread for the blowout?

Well, this isn't really thread-worthy so will just say it here:

Tristan Thompson is a classless BUM!

Return to Toronto Raptors
