+14.7 pressures vs. average: Devonte Wyatt (13th among 68 qualifiers)
+5.8: Kenny Clark (23rd)
-6.2: Karl Brooks (41st)
-7.1: T.J. Slaton (43rd)
I can hear the comment section starting up already. The numbers must be bunk if Devonte Wyatt is this high on the list. Here’s what I’ll say; these are the players who rank above Wyatt in pressures versus average: Quinnen Williams, Zach Allen, Osa Odighizuwa, DeForest Buckner, Ed Oliver, Chris Jones, Javon Hargrave, Dexter Lawrence, Nnamdi Madubuike (formerly Justin Madubuike), Maliek Collins, Jarren Reed and Christian Wilkins. Just behind him are the likes of Jalen Carter, Jeffery Simmons, Leonard Williams and Arik Armstead. Those are the league’s top defensive tackles.
The problem isn’t that Wyatt doesn’t produce when he’s on the field. It’s that he’s not on the field enough. Wyatt’s 11.9 percent pressure rate is better than all but Quinnen Williams, Hargrave, Odighizuwa, Buckner, Allen and Jones among qualifiers. The difference? Of the 12 players who rank above Wyatt in pressures versus average, they have averaged 755 pass-rushing snaps over the past two seasons. Wyatt has only posted 447 compared to Allen’s 1,011Top Free Agent Defensive Tackles
+28.7: Osa Odighizuwa (3rd)
+17.5: Jarran Reed (11th)
+7.2: Milton Williams (22nd)
-6.7: Tershawn Wharton (42nd)
-9.5: B.J. Hill (48th)
-20.5: D.J. Jones (63rd)
As far as the free agent class goes, there are not many qualifiers who are going to be free agents. This shouldn’t be a surprise to people who follow the sport closely. Franchises rarely let quality linemen walk for nothing.
There are really three needle movers in this class. Two, Dallas’ Osa Odighizuwa and Philadelphia’s Milton Williams, are one-dimensional players. For perspective, at the combine, Odighizuwa was measured in at 282 pounds while Williams was 284. Both are quality pass-rushing defensive tackles, but adding them to the roster in Green Bay would only be multiplying the Packers’ Wyatt problem. It wouldn’t solve it.
They aren't seeing much FA help available from this group
This draft is supposedly stacked with DL talent. I wouldnt mind at all taking a couple DL early on
