Since there is a lag until the next game due to all star weekend and because this board tends to be repetitive, I thought I would introduce a couple new discussion items:
1) Many of you claim Doc Rivers is an outmoded coach who doesn't innovate and that the game has passed him by, etc. Yet some of you show admiration for the assistants on the staff which include Ham, Prunti, Dave Joerger and Rex. That is 4 experienced assistants who have had previous head coaching gigs. So if Doc is in fact outmoded and not putting the best product on the floor, then what is holding back these 4 assistants from convincing Doc to implement other things? I can not fathom these adults are too afraid, cowardly, dense, lazy or whatever - from pulling Doc aside and being vocal about lineup changes, new schemes, etc. Doc or any leader is smart enough to be open to new ideas and ways of doing things. Most of us do not know what goes on behind the scenes with a team and all we know is what we see at game time. However, a small number of you probably do know how a team functions behind the scenes, in practice, in coaching circles, etc. Those are the ones I would like to hear about this and not just conjecture. Again, it seems unbelievable that these assistants and Doc himself, are not aware of the best coaching schemes and practices for the modern NBA that people like Spo and Atkinson are using and not implement them here. These assistants must have good innovative ideas. Are they not sharing them? Is Doc too stubborn to try some of them or listen? I can not believe he would be. Let's hear about the dynamics within coaching staff.
2) It would be interesting to learn the best player development methods used by other teams and why that does not happen with the Bucks. I remember years ago commentators used to praise the continual player development methods of the Portland Trail Blazers back when they had players like T.R Dunn and others. At that time, Portland regularly took raw players and developed them into solid contributors. I would think that would be even easier today with the G-League, increased coaching staffs, better sports science and so on. I know coaches want to win now and tend to favor playing vets, but how is it the Heat continually turn prospects into contributing players and other teams don't? Besides playing g-leagues games, what is the coaching regiment like for young players to develop? Again, it would be good to know what goes on with teams that the average fan does not know because all they see is the game.
I share the kudos to the moderators for running a good board.
