Right but the difference between the examples you gave and the one I gave is you'd actually have the best dunkers attempting dunks in mine.
Yeah. I kind of thought the idea was to have NBA All stars compete in these events. Not "professional dunkers". Whatever. Like I suggested, just have a circus every year and play a basketball game in the middle of it. What's the difference?
Except Jaylen Brown did it a few years ago and everyone thought it was an embarrassment. Most all stars aren't really working on creative dunks. Maybe Ja Morant? The dunk contest and 3pt contest have always included non all stars. Harold Miner, Dee Brown, and Kenny Walker are among the contest winners. They were trash players. You only have a few years where a Dwight Howard or MJ or Bird comes in and takes over.
It's always been a contest with the best dunkers only now most of those guys aren't NBA players.
Then like I said, do whatever to get viewers. I won't be one unless my team is involved ever again. The skills competition was garbage. The 3pt contest is too gimmicky. The dunk contest was basically a one man show. Castle did a decent job trying to just use the ball and his own skill though. The games are not worth watching anymore. It really has less to do with skill these days. The league has been grasping for straws trying to make it better for years. Not having much success at all.
