I'm not here to claim any of these guys have a bag but you really are overselling that jab step :D

A jab step from above the break is an essential tool for any triple threat scorer. It sets up so many go to moves especially when you can just knock down the 3 from the jab step. Who on the Knicks besides Brunson and KAT can execute that effectively? The answer is nobody.

Yeah but the threat to dribble, shoot or pass is the important part. I have a jab step. I wouldn't say that I have a bag

You need to be able to set up a good efficient shot. You can claim Nick Young had a bag but when you take terrible shots then your bag is worthless

Something so simple yet effective and Mikal can’t do it. That was the whole point. Mikal doesn’t even have a pump fake. Can’t create any separation with the ball unless it’s a contested fadeaway. That’s his “bag”

With his midrange game and fadeaway I feel like he could easily add a pump fake to draw more fouls but he doesn't for whatever reason. I can't see anyway for him to add a pump fake to that elongated 3 point shot

So many times I see a defender running at him in the corner and instead of using the pump fake to get them to contest so he can take a side step and get a clean look, I see him just rush the shot. It’s like he’s in his own head, whoever told him he had a slow release and needed to work on the quickness of his release, that’s all he’s worked on and all he focuses on when he shoots. He has no feel or awareness. Little things like that just bother me about his game and I don’t see anything changing unless he gets a new trainer or something and works on other aspects of his game.

Na don’t move the goalposts lol. I read you saying to Jay “You aren’t familiar with Hunter, he’s so much more skilled than Bridges and he doesn’t need to be set up for open looks like Bridges does.” Which is some hilarious bullshyt because he’s not so much more skilled and absolutely does need to be set up for open looks.

You want Mikal to be KD but he’s not, but that doesn’t mean he’s unskilled and incapable of getting buckets like you’re suggesting by completely dismissing his work and ability.

If Thibs staggered the lineups properly to give him more opportunities (because the starting 5 is full of guys who need a good amount of touches) and maybe implemented some sort of offensive system or any shred of creativity on that end (with both Mikal and KAT), then maybe he would look more like he did in BK his first year.

Not only that, but maybe if he didn’t put him out of position at the POA running thru the most screens in the league and played him the most mpg in the league, he’d perform better offensively.

It’s the same system that OG plays in. It’s the same system RJ played in. Same system that IQ, Randle, Burks and many more played in. The freedom is there. Guys who can do something with it do, those that can’t don’t. Thibs isn’t the one restricting Mikal. Mikal just isn’t that good. Sorry
