He always showed flashes of this but it’s great to see him doing it on a nightly basis now.

I’ve been one of his biggest supporters on here saying he just needs the ball. Happy to see he’s panning out

Chicago has had a 120.3 ORtg/+5.9 rORtg over Giddey's last 12 games. 116.0 ORtg/+1.6 rORtg over the last 24. Trending upward on the Bulls season average /w increased usage...

I know this is Giddey's achievement but it does feel good when you continue to back a players potential that most had dismissed and they eventually show out.

I think Giddey showed a lot as a rookie but as SGA rocketed up, Giddey was left with less opportunity for growth on a quickly improving Thunder. Except Giddey has improved in the rate numbers and efficiency numbers every season, it was subtle but it was there. He's also improved his defense a little every year. You can even see slight improvements pre and post ASB each year.

I think he just always had the passing but he's improving his handle, shooting and defense constantly. It's a slow process but the trajectory is up. If he can add an iso scoring bag then he can really take off. He's still only 22. 8 more years until we see peak.

I'm not sure people ever dismissed the talent, there were questions about his shooting and if that could ultimately limit his upside but the total package was always there... It was just the other off the court stuff, whether right or wrong, that colored a lot of people the wrong way.

It was there but interestingly his draft stock also rose up quickly. Young talent in Australia is well known. Giddey kind of shot up in ability in a very short time as a teenager. He was known but known to not be that good, then suddenly he improved and showed out in the NBL before the draft.

Improving seems to be his elite skill. A little like Butler

As Bill James wrote about another sport, 40 years ago, improving *is* an elite skill. It's also a deeply underappreciated one, in the sense that it's hard to spot, even for professional talent evaluators.

Giddey is winning some fantasy leagues this year for sure.

Him and Coby is a guaranteed Play-in team so I guess the Bulls are just gonna be happy with that exact result for the next decade just like the last.

There were a lot of ignorant people willing to dismiss Giddey after his final season at OKC, without taking into account that he was playing a role that was clearly taking away from his skill set.

One thing that is also dismissed too easily, was that even though he had to sacrifice his game due to the requirements of the team and coaches, not once did you hear of him being a disruption or anything but a good teammate. He understood that SGA was the man and Giddey's skill set needed to take a back seat to the better player. Even though what he was being asked to do, highlighted some of his weaknesses and also saw him playing a decreased role overall. OKC have been nothing but complimentary about Giddey.

He is also still a young guy. It's always incredible to me that people are willing to write off guys after 2-4 seasons in the league and still in their early 20's, especially when they have shown a willingness to work and have a good IQ. He may not keep going at this current rate, BUT he has shown that he can be a very good player in the right situation.

Him and Coby White work really well off each other in the backcourt. Perfect compliment to each other kinda like Trae Young and Daniels.

To be fair, the Bulls traded away Caruso, Derozan and Lavine. We didn’t expect the Bulls to be 8-2 in their last 10 and we didn’t expect the 76ers and Heat to be this bad this year.

There will be guys drafted on 2025 that are older than Giddey, just to hammer home how young this guy is.

Healthy Lonzo if ever possible is a great fit next to them too. High volume shooter, elite defender, and sky high IQ. I’d love to see him get all the injuries behind him and play his best.

What is his ceiling?

He was always a 3PT shot away from being a very good player. He does a bit of everything else well. I was one of the few who was not enamoured with the trade from OKC perspective.

I think OKC made the determination they wouldn't be able to sign him for the role he was going to have going forward and just got what they could. We went through something similar with nerlens noel. He was never going to accept backup money at the time so we dumped him for 2nds as a player he was worth much more but with limited control the value just isn't there

Well the king of his archetype is Luka.

Giddey has the size, he has the passing, he can be as good defensively, he has the rebounding. Athleticism is similar.

So for Giddey to get to that level is going to take improving handles, shooting and scoring bag.

He has improved these 3 things, he's getting people on his hip more, protecting ball more and shooting better. Hell keep improving these but I'm unclear where he gets too since he's always adding.

I don't think he gets as good as Luka is now but it's possible. Still Luka is improving too.

nah, i think its fair game.

giddey and caruso are really apples and oranges. despite missing games and a limited role, caruso is having a fantastic season. just an illustration, right now he sits at top 20 epm performers in the league, also on an upward trend (getting healthier, coming around his career 3pt average after a horrid shooting start), also, caruso is extended for an extra 4 seasons which is an extra 3 seasons compared to what the thunder would be able to afford from giddey.

if giddey stayed at the thunder, he would just deteriorate his value league wise because he was going to be coming off bench. giddey needs room to improve to realize his upside and projection and the thunder wouldnt be able to afford that.

as a rookie i thought giddey+shai playmaking combo would be the thunder cornerstone going ahead. in giddeys sophomore season, sga became an all world hyper efficient elite defender scoring lead guard, and the addition of jalen williams, both factors just made giddey shrink in okcs long term plans.

if giddeys value is about to skyrocket, thunders team performance skyrocketed with his substraction and subsequent addition of caruso in a smaller role.

There was always going to be players in OKC who wouldn't get the chance to properly spread their wings and develop for this cycle of the team. There were just too many picks and SGA is too good to slow the team down for guys who can't keep up. Those who became winning impact guys the fastest were going to get preference.

It isn't just Giddey that this happened to. Tre Mann (Who sadly has missed most of the season with back issues), immediately looked like a very useful combo guard when he got to Charlotte and he was totally out of the rotation in OKC. He had struggled in year two and got usurped by Isaiah Joe whose shooting made a huge impact on the teams offense. Add in Wallace the next season and Tre was effectively roadblocked.

I even wonder what Ousmane Dieng would look like if he got the runway that Kyshawn George or Cody Williams are getting. He was a true project and the moment he got drafted the team turned in to a deep .500 unit, and the following year, a contender. Dieng is only 7 months older than George, and it wouldn't surprise me if there was a Kyle Anderson type player buried in there somewhere.
