I think OKC made the determination they wouldn't be able to sign him for the role he was going to have going forward and just got what they could. We went through something similar with nerlens noel. He was never going to accept backup money at the time so we dumped him for 2nds as a player he was worth much more but with limited control the value just isn't there
nah, i think its fair game.
giddey and caruso are really apples and oranges. despite missing games and a limited role, caruso is having a fantastic season. just an illustration, right now he sits at top 20 epm performers in the league, also on an upward trend (getting healthier, coming around his career 3pt average after a horrid shooting start), also, caruso is extended for an extra 4 seasons which is an extra 3 seasons compared to what the thunder would be able to afford from giddey.
if giddey stayed at the thunder, he would just deteriorate his value league wise because he was going to be coming off bench. giddey needs room to improve to realize his upside and projection and the thunder wouldnt be able to afford that.
as a rookie i thought giddey+shai playmaking combo would be the thunder cornerstone going ahead. in giddeys sophomore season, sga became an all world hyper efficient elite defender scoring lead guard, and the addition of jalen williams, both factors just made giddey shrink in okcs long term plans.
if giddeys value is about to skyrocket, thunders team performance skyrocketed with his substraction and subsequent addition of caruso in a smaller role.
