It is also nice to have Book and KD playing together and so hard on the defensive end. If we would not have turned the ball over so much last night could have been a blow out. That has been the story all season.
Its actually jolting how much KD actually turns the ball over. Getting ripped and silly lazy passes.... its maddening!!
Turnovers from dribbling have always been an issue with KD. Even back in his actual prime with OKC.
I think it’s because he’s so tall but he dribble like a guard so he doesn’t get low enough and that makes it easier for defenders to get his cookies. And he doesn’t have the quickness he had in OKC so now his crossover dribbles are much slower and easier to time.
I think he has the worst ball handling skills by far out of any perimeter player in the top 20 all time list.
I cannot disagree with most of the turnover complaints. TO"s are annoying and harmful. There seems to be, however, a correlation with the most dangerous offensive threats, who need to be doubled, trapped, or worse, the overall competence of the team, and, I think, the quality of its point guard. For example, KD averaged 2.7 per game in his three years with GS, vs the 3.2 of his career and with the Suns. Michael Jordan averaged 2.7 averaging 30.1 pts for a career.
KD is 23d (TOs per game) while being sixth in scoring average (27.2 PPG) in NBA history. This year he is sixth in scoring average and tenth in turnovers. For perspective, he is behind Young (4.8 per), Cunningham (4,5), Harden (4.4), James (3.9), Jokic (3.3), Giannis, Pool, and Westbrook (3.2), with his at 3.1per.
In summary, looking at the NBA's ten all time leading scorers, KD is second lowest to Jordan for turnovers per game. Those are his real peers. Frankly, I would not want to see him be less aggressive because of our reasonable upset with overall team turnovers. And I think he is basketball smart enough not to be. I'm sure, though, as a perfectionist, he is working on improvement without sacrificing dominance.
