He's a rookie. There's no point going back and forth about his individual stats night to night. He's flashing traits and abilities on the court that can translate to future success on the court. Abilities none of the previous Horst 1st rounders since Donte have shown. HIs first step and speed are already elite. There's more there than what the box score leads one to believe.
i would argue that the thing he is flashing the most is elite athleticism, which is what everyone already knew he had even pre draft. and it's also important to understand the context of the "flashes." this isn't quite pre season level defense, but when you flash (and still putting up terrible lines) against the Phillys and Torontos of the world in late March, it's not that impressive.
if i'm Washington, obviously I'm excited, because you tend to dream with prospects. you ignore all the flaws and just automatically assume they will get fixed. glass half full mindset (it took me until last year to accept that Giannis wouldn't hit 3s). but this glass is like 1/10th full and many are acting like it's about to pour over and lay waste to downtown Milwaukeee.
i'm cool with it. yes, it would have been nice to have that lottery ticket. if it hits, we extend the Giannis window. but the chances aren't good and it's mostly a mirage.
