Re: What does the ideal lineup around Trae even look like?
Looks like Quentin Grimes was the single, most perfect backcourt mate for Trae.
Very good on ball defender. Very good three point shooter.

Idiot Wizards gave this dude away for the #14 pick in the draft.
This a guy we should have targeted last summer...

Having a 6'4" shooting guard is what keeps it from being perfect. How high is his ceiling is a factor. Landry Fields wanted him but NY wanted a first round pick for him. Everybody has known the kid has value with the exception of Nico. Dallas moved him so they wouldn't have to pay him.Jamaaliver wrote:Looks like Quentin Grimes was the single, most perfect backcourt mate for Trae.

1. The size is a fair concern.
2. Travis wanted him as well. Grimes was one of the main targets in the Cam Reddish trade 3 years ago.
3. Knicks sent him to DET.
DET sent him to DAL.
There were opportunities to acquire him the last couple of season.

I remember Travis wanted him. We discussed it here. The Knicks demanded a mid first round pick for Grimes. It turned off several teams.

Re: What does the ideal lineup around Trae even look like?
Is he worth taking a run at this summer?
ESPN InsiderNBA Breakout Players for 2026
Quentin Grimes
Philadelphia 76ers | Guard
It might almost be unfair to place Grimes here, given the monster scoring performances he has been putting up with the 76ers of late. Yes, the Sixers are a chaotic mess, and yes, it's hard to identify anything tangible from what they're doing right now as they seek to keep their top-six-protected pick. But Grimes, 24, is in the midst of the best stretch of pro basketball he has played since his rookie season in 2021, averaging nearly 29 points per game through nine games in March. The fourth-year wing had never averaged more than 11.3 points per game in a season.
Key stat: Grimes' usage rate of 25.9% since joining the Sixers might be hard to sustain once players such as Joel Embiid, Paul George and Tyrese Maxey are back and healthy next season. Still, anyone who can notch a 46-point showing with Philadelphia's stripped-down unit is potentially worth having around, even in a smaller role. (Grimes will be a restricted free agent this summer.) These recent breakout games are the types of performances that the Knicks, Pistons and Mavs desperately wanted Grimes to show when he was wearing their respective uniforms.

Can he become as good as Desmond Bane? If so, we pay Grimes $40 million per season, because that's his value. Who would we start him over? I doubt Grimes is interested in being a Hawk.Jamaaliver wrote:Is he worth taking a run at this summer?ESPN InsiderNBA Breakout Players for 2026

Is Grimes better than Austin Reeves? Can Grimes be the next SGA? What type of player is he actually going to become after his recent success is what I look forward to seeing.

Re: What does the ideal lineup around Trae even look like?
How much would you guys charge Phoenix to take Beal off their hands?
Ryan Dunn?
2032 Draft pick?
Kevin Durant?
I do believe Beal could be useful off the bench in Atlanta...2 years $100+ million is a bit high to stomach.

Unpopular opinion: I'd really like to grab Zach Lavine as our 6th man for title run next season...

A buy Low candidate like Davion Mitchell would have done wonders for us this year after Kobe went down to injury.

Re: What does the ideal lineup around Trae even look like?
Mogbo was reportedly a target of the Landry led Hawks Front Office ahead of last year's draft.
I wonder if TOR adds another young forward...if they might be willing to move Mogbo and Ochai Agbaji in trade.

Jamaaliver wrote:A 3 & D Center to defend the rim, defend in space, space the floor from the corners and work as a rim runner. This will be difficult to find.
- Karl-Anthony Towns is expensive and can't guard on the perimeter, but his scoring and floor spacing makes him the ideal candidate
- Okongwu can do most of this, but doesn't space the floor...yet
- Ke'Le Ware in the draft works on paper.
- Kelly Olynyk is a solid option, but isn't much of a rim protector or perimeter defender.
- Jalen Smith is a strong option here, also.
Hawks finally got a floor spacing, rim-protecting center to play with Trae.

Wish we had got in on him before he went to Washington. Nevertheless , he's at least here now.
