I don't think Mitch and Precious are meant to play together in Thibs' eyes
I checked the box scores. There have been exactly 13 games that both KAT and Mitch have played the same game. Precious has either gotten a DNP or very little playing time
game 1: 4 minutes and 21 seconds
game 2: DNP
game 3: DNP
game 4: 5 minutes exactly
game 5: 8 minutes and 50 seconds
game 6: 10 minutes and 22 seconds
game 7: 10 minutes and 1 second
game 8: 7 minutes and 9 seconds
game 9: 11 minutes and 52 seconds
game 10: 7 minutes and 58 seconds
game 11: 6 minutes and 25 seconds
game 12: 10 minutes and 54 seconds
game 13: DNP
Precious is a 3rd string center or a starting power forward (only alongside KAT) in the event that OG is out. OG only gets extended minutes when one of either KAT or Mitch is out.
Precious did not develop enough of a jumper or offensive game to allow Thibs to play him on the offensive end alongside Mitch. Precious has been as great as he can be for us as an undersized center, or power forward in limited situations.
Come playoff time, I think Payne will back up Brunson, Deuce will take up most of the minutes backing up Mikal, Josh, and OG, and Mitch will fully back up KAT (and maybe play alongside him depending on matchups with Cleveland or Boston).
Shamet might see a few minutes, but the reality is that McBride has a longer wing span than Shamet, even though Shamet is 2 inches taller. I feel we are better off giving McBride close to 30 minutes a game in the playoffs then having him play half of that just to fit in other guys off the bench.
