I'm good with Larson too, but wasnt sure if he could stand up to the physicality of spider.
Wiggins needs to be on Spider
Wiggins is a much better help defender than an on ball defender.
Under M. Brown and when they won the chip, wiggins was used as the off ball defender. Poole and klay Thompson actually played more poa defense than Wiggins did. The entire premise of the brown defense was to make sure wiggs and dray cleaned up the defense. They were a top 5 defense under brown, and that's with 3 bad defenders in steph, klay, and poole.
Under Atkinson, wiggs was primarily poa. But the team defense suffered because now it was guys like klay, kuminga, and steph being the help. The tracking data was even better for wiggins defensively, but the team defense struggled. It's the role.
I see bam as the closest thing to draymond in this league. Not as smart and vocal, but alot more athletic.
Great offense will beat great on ball defense, it's why I don't put too much emphasis on it in the playoffs. Help/team defense is much more important. So, by putting wiggins on spider, you essentially put one of herro or burk as the primary roamer (switchy perimeter defender).
Mike brown is actually a genius at creating defensive schemes to hide players. He's the guy that came up with the tagging changed the 2022 playoffs. The problem is, u need very specific personnel to use it(he tried in sacramento), which the heat have.
