Some coach working the refs aside, Tom complaining about JB not getting calls is just depressing, even if he doesn't mean it that much.

I suspect it's like 50-50 that he does mean it. And I'm not saying JB doesn't get bad reffing. But if Tom thinks for a second that that's the main takeaway form yesterday, woo boy.

Brunson’s USG% on the year is around 28% and last night it was 39.4% - that represents a 40% increase.

NBA teams AVG time of possession in 24-25 was 14.4 seconds - Brunson himself was at 10.6 seconds in Game 2 in case you are wondering why we are never a hockey assist away from a functional possession. There is no mismatch hunting, transition oops, double screens, stagger screens, pin downs or curl plays. We don’t push the pace off a missed FG or FTA - it’s stuck in the mud.

As far as touches are concerned, Brunson had 104 last night when he was closer to 84 on the season.

In fact, if you look at game 2 as far as who Jalen passed the ball to, Bridges received 38, Hart 32 and KAT only had 12 passes delivered from JB.

This offense is an utter indictment of Thibs and it’s truly the worst coaching I’ve seen him do across 6 years as a Knick HC. He has no clue how to adapt to his player personnel or the opposing HC, he will never be proactive to seek a way to win on the margins. It’s laughable.

dr. buttah, context matters.

it's easy to look at those numbers and not think about why. that usage wasn't the gameplan. the variance you point out inherently says as much. they know we know we should be moving the ball. that's why they forced the ISOs and won.

if you listen to thibs talk, you often hear him agreeing with what posters complain about and trying to get the players to execute it. is it possible he can't? sure. different conversation. but to think a 2X COY doesn't know what you're saying makes me laugh out loud on this forum.

like, "oh snap. user X really thinks they not only 'know ball' more than a lifelong professional... they think said pro doesn't even conceptually know what we're talking about." it's insulting to the coach and readers.

Respectfully, it just sounds like you’re okay with making every excuse in the book for Thibs when we have seen this same movie play out over the course of his career.

not at all. thibs has much to account for. that's a bit of a goalpost move from what i actually said.

i spoke specifically about the idea that the coach doesn't understand ball movement and that he actually publicly asks it of the players. i also said that if he can't get them to do it, that's another conversation -- as in, a coaching problem that needs to be addressed.

but you shared numbers about a game and presented it as what he wanted when there is evidence it was not the plan. that's the point you seem to have missed or intentionally sidestepped.

the point is more that removing the nuance takes power away from some arguments because they seem disingenuous.

i'm in here talking ball with people i disagree with all day. gladly. it's actually helping me process the frustration from last night's L.
RIP magnumt

thanks for everything, thibs.

To be realistic, KAT didn't dominate the Wolves' offense either. Something is missing. Hard to put your finger on it. He's a crazy talent. I'm stumped.

I get the big feet, the set shot from 3, the bad defense, the lack of instinct, the charges, all that. I guess KAT dies by too many paper cuts. Because his offensive talent is off the charts.

You'll run out of these a lot quicker than I'll run out of Josh Hart games. Which is to say, that we need a head coach more than we need REDACTED.

I agree with you that the point is to get KAT in the pinch post. For us to take full advantage of it, we need Jalen to turn the corner and force KAT's man to hedge over to him, which should leave KAT completely open or able to run the rim with Jalen's man, which should be a PG, on him.

The complication is that Jalen is being guarded by a wing and so is KAT, so there is no advantage created off of that action. So we spend time getting the wing switched off of Jalen, but that doesn't solve that the wing is still on KAT.

He's still in the high post, but there is now only 10-13 secs left on the clock, so we just give it to him and let him drive.

We HAVE TO get Hart's man to switch on to KAT. It is imperative.

KAT and JB being unable to execute a reliable pick and roll or pick and pop is very concerning. for all the talent they both have, neither are good at basketball's simplest action since the 60s.

in game 1 we saw KAT activated and technically sound on defense. if the man could set a screen...

This seems like a pretty big requirement for a successful PnR

Sad state of affairs. They've been the better team for 2 games and were fortunate to be tied right now.

But on the real, it’s not even about Randle. It’s just about having that second creator. Randle that was that for us and now we have a massive void without him. I am hoping we address that this summer.

Randle in 15 playoff games with us:

17/9/4 on 34/28/76 splits (.462 TS), 3.7:3.9 a:to ratio

KAT in 2 playoff games with us:

17/9/3 on 60/20/100 splits (.638 TS), 2.5:0 a:to ratio

So Randle averaged 1.2 more apg than KAT, but 3.9 more tov. Really not comparable, KAT needs to do more, Randle was doing too much.
BaF Lakers:

Nikola Topic/Kasparas Jakucionis
VJ Edgecombe/Jrue Holiday
Shaedon Sharpe/Cedric Coward
Kyle Filipowski/Collin Murray-Boyles
Alex Sarr/Clint Capela

Bench: Malcolm Brogdon/Hansen Yang/Rocco Zikarsky/RJ Luis Jr.

I'm just saying ... wasn't trying to tout Randle or fight old battles. But as bad as Randle is, and he's bad, he demands shots. Donte was a spark, although limited and should be a backup as he is. But MB has been weak in his place.

It's impossible to put all the blame on Thibs. He should try something totally new though.

Obviously KAT has not been dominant in the NBA, some of that with Thibs in Minny lol.

Jfc, we're doing Randle stanning after THAT playoff loss.

Like sitting in a hospital bed and reminiscing your parents forgetting your birthday type vibes. Bunch of sickos in here.

i thought he said the main takeaway was the rebounding.

i don't like when coaches talk about the officiating. thibs usually rejects that conversation as a reason for wins and losses to his credit. so when he's feeling a way it tends to perk my ears a bit. in this case, i saw it too. whistle didn't look fair. pistons felt the opposite in game 1. ready to move on.

brunson foul baits. but he also gets smacked in the face regularly and it's not visible. both things true.
