They may not want to tie up money long-term on Isaac. Goga plus a player and both our 2nd round picks. Portis might opt in and give him a 2 - or 3-year extension.Skybox wrote:basketballRob wrote:Portis is building up his value as soon as I say the Magic should target him. In hindsight, me offering Isaac for him is a joke. Maybe Isaac and a 1st.

I wouldn't. Trae is always going to be on mediocre teams. That's just who he is. He doesn't play defense. He reminds me of Vuc. Trae is better than Vuc offensively but even worse defensively.mattdelray1220 wrote:Knightro wrote:I would be willing to trade for Trae assuming the cost wouldn't be high at all, but I can understand why people WOULDN'T be willing to do that.
It would have to be AB KCP JI + 1st
Are we willing to give up on AB and the depth with KCP and JI?
I am on the fence about this one. Plus if they did this they lose all flexibility going forward. But it is what it is they would essentially have
Trae Cole
Suggs Caleb Harris
Franz Tristan
Paolo Moe
WCJ Goga
+ Draft picks
Would have to sign a veteran PF like a Paul Reed or Jae Crowder

We also aren't going to have 3 max players.mattdelray1220 wrote:basketballRob wrote:I wouldn't. Trae is always going to be on mediocre teams. That's just who he is. He doesn't play defense. He reminds me of Vuc. Trae is better than Vuc offensively but even worse defensively.mattdelray1220 wrote:

I highly doubt the Magic make this kind of move. I have a feeling they are VERY HIGH on AB. High enough to make him the starter sooner than later. If that is the case I am not sure how they really find room for a shooter.

Skybox wrote:If Portis feels like MIL is a dead end, he could theoretically opt out and sign with us for MLE, assuming ORL is his big target (maybe his kids love Disney, he clicks with Mose, etc). It could be a Grant Hill situation, where we politely threaten MIL - "Look, he's coming either way...do you want to do a SnT and get a player you can use back?" Then - maybe you can pull off Isaac and a srp for Portis (and still have your MLE to work with on a different FA like Ty Jerome). Or, maybe you trade Isaac to CHI for Ayo and then MLE Portis.Theoretically, these options don't involve any of our frps.
I know it's a lot, but...I don't think any are individually unrealistic
1) Goga to CHI for Ayo Dosunmu (CHI betting on Lonzo & frp behind Coby and Giddey and looks ahead to moving off Vuc while he's still got some game)
2) WCJ to DAL for Daniel Gafford (DAL sees WCJ as a more versatile fit next to Lively, who's a younger, bigger Gafford, and Anthony Davis)
3) Isaac and srp to MIL for opt out & re-upped Bobby Portis (MIL chooses to add potentially upgraded defensive player rather than lose Portis for zip)
4) KCP to CLE for re-upped Ty Jerome (say, $18 per?) (same situation as Portis, sign in ORL for MLE or SnT, so he can get paid, KCP is a strong add)
5) Maybe BRK welcomes home Cole Anthony & Jett (largely into cap space) for a one year tryout...Cole and Jett for a top 55 protected srp?
ORL drafts Thomas Sorber at #16 (unless Murray-Boyles drops) and Walter Clayton at #25, BPA prospects with srps (I like Raynaud, Proctor)
ORL declines Team Options on Gary Harris, CoJo
ORL retains Caleb Houstan and Trev Queen (for very little) or, after much consideration, signs AJ Griffin to vet min salvage experiment
Gafford, Portis, Sorber, (Moe)
Paolo, Portis, Sorber
Franz, TdS, Houstan
Suggs, AB, Griffin
Jerome, Dosunmu, Clayton
*Much more balanced backcourt, but still exceptional defensively. Better-fitting, hopefully reliable bigs to work with Paolo & Franz. Better bench offense and defensive potential, even more solid when Moe returns. Unreliable bigs and ill-advised KCP signing undone. Salaries are balanced and we even save some cap space (assuming Jerome < KCP and Portis around Isaac's $15m, although Ayo and Gafford will be expirings to be dealt with going into next summer. Concerns are whether Ayo adds enough offense to pair with AB in backcourt vs more of a scorer/sniper.
