yawn. I love how Joe got none of the credit when they won and gets most of the blame when they lose. Is it Joe's fault the Jays are mental midgets? Or Holiday inexplicably forgot to defend against Brunson on that final possession? Or that Jaylen Brown didn't go after that rebound that led to the three? Or that his team forgot to shoot? Do you these geniuses think Joe is asking them to play like crap and could do anything to prevent it? Players have to play. Coaching doesn't matter in the NBA.
Holiday struggling to guard Brunson shouldn't have been news to Joe. And he's the one telling them that these rushed 3s are good shots. You can't absolve the coach when a team is playing as dumb as Boston is.
yeah, I'm sure Joe sat them down and said "guys, make sure you rush those threes k?!!" and while he was at it "Hey Jrue, I know you're one of the best defenders in the league, but in the most critical possession of the game with us up two can you please play moronic aggressive defense and allow Brunson to drive right past you forcing you to foul sending Brunson to the line to give them a lead with 12 seconds left?!" Or earlier with a 20 point lead "hey Jaylen, Tatum is going to give you the easiest pass on a 2 on 1 fast break, can you please completely whiff on that and kill our momentum?!" Then in the fourth "okay Jaylen, I'm going to need you to stand there and wait for the rebound to come to you instead of going to get it so they get the offensive rebound and resulting three, k?!"
There's absolutely nothing a coach can do in these circumstances. These are bone-headed mistakes made by players who should know better. Please enlighten me how Joe could have altered these game-changing/deciding plays.
That wasn't the first time Brunson burned Jrue. Prime Jrue would've been one of the best defenders you could've asked for to throw at Brunson and make it hard for him to work his magic, but this is a Jrue that Jalen can beat reliably...even on an off-night. If Joe hasn't figured that out yet, then he deserves to watch Jalen get whatever he wants late in these games.
And Mazulla is the one who came out after game 1 saying they took good shots...so yes, that seems to be exactly what he's telling them? Hopefully the Celtics don't fire him and he doesn't learn a thing from his mistakes, because so far in this series, Thibs has absolutely abused him and he didn't even get a TC to work on things with this group.
Players screw up some times, but Joe is the one setting his players up to fail, over & over again. Like when Thibs baited him to Hack-a-Mitch until they were in the penalty.

Brunson: So what are you paid to do?
Hart: Run around like an idiot during the game and f*** s*** up!
