Too? They’re not paying Pickens big money. He’s still in the final year of his rookie deal. Also the Steelers and Cowboys are not in the same position.
"Too" as in you said the Steelers don't want to pay Pickens top money. Why would the Cowboys trade for him and not pay him top money? A 3rd round pick for a 1-year rental diva WR? Let's see if it works out for them.

Let me explain this again. The Cowboys are not currently paying Pickens big money. They are paying him $3.6M this season. The Cowboys have 3 options when it comes to George Pickens.
A. They can resign him at which point they will be paying him big money. That haven’t resigned him yet.
B. They could let him walk which will give them a 3rd round compensatory pick. Obviously this only happens if he is as divisive as he was in Pittsburgh. Send him away and the team is in the exact same position they were before signing him.
C. The Cowboys can tag Pickens and allow him to seek a trade. Also this obviously only happens if Pickens balls out and keeps his nose clean. At worst, in this scenario, the Cowboys could recoup a 3rd round pick (from the team that trades for him) that will likely be better than the one they traded to get Pickens. Best case scenario in this event, the Cowboys trade Pickens for a 1st.
No matter how you slice it, this deal is good for the Cowboys. Regardless of what YOU think the Cowboys will be a good team this year. At least in the regular season.
As for why it would be bad for the Steelers to pay Pickens, they are a team on the decline. They’re old, they have been running through journeyman QB’s (with no end in site). Say what you want about Dak but Pittsburgh would kill to have Dak as their QB.
