As it stands right now, I see (6) players that appear they certainly will not be there @ #11: Flagg, Harper, Edgecombe, Bailey, Johnson & Knueppel
That leaves (4) picks before POR, where IMO there are (3) players they should be targeting: Jakucionis, Demin or Bryant and it is becoming increasingly possible that all (3) of those players are gone, and potentially even a guy like Essengue (whom some like at #11) could be gone as well, leaving POR with a choice of: Maluach, Queen, Fears or reaching for a guy like Clifford, Coward or ???
POR needs (2) of Fears, Maluach or Queen to go before their pick, then that leaves them with the possibility that (1) of Jakucionis\Demin\Bryant are available, (2) if you consider Essengue worth the pick here.
Thankfully, so far I have been seeing Fears solidly in the top 10 and at least (1) of Maluach\Queen as well.
Of course, there are a few players that could certainly rise into the top 10 b\t now and the draft: Cedric Coward is rocketing up the boards, Thomas Sorber's stock is climbing and then there is CMB, though shooting at combine (highlighting shooting concerns with him) may slide him a little, but he was top 10 in most mocks (will be curious to see where he is a few weeks from now), any one of those going (or another player, not sure who) before POR picks would be even better.
I wonder what the scenario is POR is sitting there with: Fears, Maluach & Queen on the board? Do they see if CHI wants to switch spots (or ATL) for one of the big men? Do they reach for a guy like Coward? Take Sorber? Take the gamble on Fears? Someone else?
Fears is interesting...I think his combine measurements are really going to hurt him--there's just not a lot of guards coming into the league at his size anymore. To this point I've watched quite a few actual games of Fears', and I consider myself a believer. IMO he has the upside to be a Top 4 player in this draft. I believe in his shot mechanics and his FT% and think that he'll be above league average in a couple of years. I also think that his Ast numbers were deflated because of his teammates. IMHO, dude is the best ballhandler in this draft, and once he has some experience I think he'll be an incredibly high level self-creator and creator for others. Kind of a blend of D'Aaron Fox and Jeff Teague. Buuuuut, 6'2.5" with a 6'5" wingspan is rough in today's NBA, and especially with guys like Scoot and Simons on the roster? I can't see him becoming a Blazer on Cronin's watch.
Maluach I'm just not a fan of. I think his archetype is pretty common in any draft, and although I do think he has upside based on how little basketball he's played and how quickly he's gotten great at it...NBA benches and overseas teams are littered with players just like him.
Queen is also interesting to me, his level of skill and touch at his size is really rare. If given the correct opportunity, I could see him being a guy that a lot of GMs wonder how they let him slip by. If he's NOT given that opprotunity, he'll look marginal on an NBA court. At his best he'll look like some kind of Z-Bo, Sengun, and Webber hybrid.
Sorber doesn't really do much for me either...he just looks like a WCJr type to me. Not a bad player, to be certain...but available in every draft.
