Sending Jrue/KP/Hauser will make them stronger. Will they trade for these guys?
I don't think we're going to trade with the Sixers but they're fundamentally compromised. Embiid will keep getting hurt. PG is on the backside of his post-prime. Giving them Jrue or Hauser doesn't move the needle in that context.
I wouldn't trade Jrue. I think without Tatum until Feb/March it'll be crucial to keep as much continuity as possible. I get the tax stuff. That needs to be addressed. I think the prime candidates to be moved are KP & Hauser. If Brad can turn KP into a more durable big that replicates at least most of what a healthy KP brings, that's a win. Flipping Hauser to a team with cap space for a future pick further helps with the tax bill without sacrificing much in terms of wins/losses. And I say that because I think Baylor is ready to step into that role. Jordan Walsh may also be ready for some more minutes.
Jrue is an outstanding defender, leader, and just a plug that helps win games. Having the White/Jrue/PP trio in the backcourt is a huge part of this team.
Ultimately, it comes down to Jaylen Brown next season. Is he capable of being a true #1 in Tatum's absence. Could be a career year from JB.
Lastly, I HOPE Al wants to keep playing. I see no reason why he'd want to retire. And I see no reason why he'd want to play elsewhere. I think he'd come back on a 2-year deal with the 2nd year being a full player option.
Jrue/White/PP
Brown/Baylor/Walsh/FA or pick
Center like Vuc or someone else like that/Al/Kornet
That's a Top 4 or 5 seed in the easy next year and then hopefully Tatum can come back and all of a sudden, this a team nobody wants to see in the playoffs.
And let's face it, Brad Stevens is awesome in his role calling the shots. Whatever he decides to do I have complete faith will be the right thing.
