That's not even the point. You either pay him or lose him, once you decide to pay him that's the market price for a young super bowl quarterback. Anything you pay below those guys is positive.

And nobody thinks they can win a super bowl with Darnold, he is not even in the same category to make the comparison.

Lose him how? He's signed for another reason. There was zero reason to rush into this contract.

Yeah that's not how nfl contracts work especially quarterbacks. Closer to free agency the more leverage quarterbacks have. Paying early also gives the team more flexibility spreading the guaranteed money.

Waiting for quarterbacks' free agency almost never works out for teams.

Whether that's how it works or not, we had another year of Brock Purdy that would've allowed us to make a more informed decision.

If he plays well again, give him the contract.

If he didn't, well then that's that and he's more than welcome to leave I guess if he wants.

also, we didn't spread out any of the guaranteed money. we literally front loaded all of it over the first 3 years.

That's not how it works though. Agents will advise QBs to play on the franchise tag and that one gets re-calculated every year. By 2026 Purdy won't even have a Top 10 contract.

What do you think will be the first recourse when they need to open up more money for free agents? They will spread it to the other years when the cap is higher. QB contract restructuring is probably the most common tool teams use in free agency, there are handful of examples almost every season which makes me think you are very new to NFL contracts.

Waiting for free agency costed Cowboys and Ravens at least two starters' worth cap space, it is a very risky way of doing business that almost always backfires.

Many had Niners among the winners of the draft, but it doesn't matter until they are on the field.

The question wasn't aimed at you.

that's just not true.

for 2026:

1 Dak: $60m

2-5
Burrow: $55m
Love: $55m
Lawrence: $55m
Brock: $55 <----

there is only 1 QB in the league making MORE more than Brock Purdy for 2026.

sorry, but that's just crazy. i like Brock, but he had no leverage here. play the year out and see what happens. if he earns next season fine.

I guess NFL teams will stop giving contracts to quarterbacks starting today. CJ Stroud, sorry you are out of the league

That list is wrong. Brock's AAV is 53 not 55, which puts him 7th only a million ahead of 10th place right now, couple of new contracts next two offseasons would put him outside of top ten. And those are not even guaranteed numbers, Brock would be lower in actual guarantees, Mahomes for example converts much of his salary to guarantees every offseason.

Having so many lifelong teams makes me lose track sometimes.

I’m not the biggest fan of his. That being said, if he’s willing to be a GM type of head coach and just delegate to his coordinators then I am ok with this. Problem is, I’m not convinced that he won’t insert himself into making important decisions on either side of the ball. He should specifically stay tf away from the defensive side of the ball because there’s some damn good coaches on that side that don’t need help.lol

This was a good move though. Teams have been poaching scouts away from the eagles so to bring joe Douglas back is a dub

Is he a good scout? His record with the Jets was downright awful.

He's a former offensive lineman himself. But what is he known for? Why did he get the Jets job in the first place?

Scouting is what he’s good at. The eagles improved in basically all areas of player acquisition after he signed with the eagles in 2016. It’s been more hit and miss with the jets I will admit but I do think he’s had some good drafts there (yes Zach Wilson, I know..lol )

Either way, howie will always be the main guy no matter what. So Douglas will be just another voice to try to convince howie to make a choice. And Douglas has good ideas in my opinion but howie has gotten better at filtering out bad ideas.

QB's ranked ahead of Purdy (in no order)

These are QB's I'd rather have than Purdy in a random, NFL game.

Honestly, healthy Tua is also better. This was a massive, massive overpay and will haunt 9er fans for the next 7 years...

- Lamar Jackson
- Josh Allen
- Patrick Mahomes
- Joe Burrow
- Jayden Daniels
- Justin Herbert
- Jordan Love
- Matthew Stafford
- Jalen Hurts
- Kyler Murray
- CJ Stroud
- Trevor Lawrence
- Caleb Williams
Praying for Burrow

Honestly, it sounds like he got the Jets job because he knew the right people (Roseman) & got his foot in the door. Which is pretty typical.
