Lose him how? He's signed for another reason. There was zero reason to rush into this contract.
Yeah that's not how nfl contracts work especially quarterbacks. Closer to free agency the more leverage quarterbacks have. Paying early also gives the team more flexibility spreading the guaranteed money.
Waiting for quarterbacks' free agency almost never works out for teams.
Whether that's how it works or not, we had another year of Brock Purdy that would've allowed us to make a more informed decision.
If he plays well again, give him the contract.
If he didn't, well then that's that and he's more than welcome to leave I guess if he wants.
also, we didn't spread out any of the guaranteed money. we literally front loaded all of it over the first 3 years.
