Didn't have anyone specific in mind. But do the rules address this specifically? If he were still property of the Nuggets does that mean 2024 isn't a farewell season?
(I'll pick now - sorry was out a lot today)
Some of those cases are indeed tricky because a farewell season is intuitive in theory but hard to define under the context of our rules. Unless there's a specific case in mind you are concerned of, maybe best not to bother ourselves and confuse ourselves further with these theoretical edge cases
I would say that we can comfortably eliminate seasons where the player has still not left the team in question. That's a fairly simple addendum to make to the existing rules. Nobody should even be considering such a player unless they're trying to get cute with the rules.
Agree.
I'd say there are still some confusing cases. Just thought about Brandon Ingram. Technically he left the Pelicans but haven't played yet for the Raptors. I'd say he isn't eligible yet to be picked for the Pelicans, but really borderline case.
Not sure if in practice, we'll actually see a case where someone wants to draft a guy, and his situation isn't explicitly addressed in the rules currently.
