I think the lesser contract has more to do with Brunson's dad. And also Jalen Brunson getting some kind of back loaded contract or MSG/Knick role later in life.

If it was about friendship(s), I'm not sure the Knicks would have traded DDV. And maybe they would have kept Ryan Arcidiacono lol.

Now, we are in an offseason where somebody like jHart could get traded. I believe Brunson was smart enough to realize his Nova friends aren't guaranteed to be here and it's not a valid reason to take less money.

I layed out what type of program I would put Kat on...I missed the conditioning I think so thats a great point.

So:
1. Lose weight and build your endurance Kat- take boxing that will accomplish both.
2. 3 month boot camp with Hakeem. (Kat needs to expand his game; imagin Kat on the block with some Hakeem moves)
3. Hypnosis so he can stop all of those silly fouls.
4. Bring in a defensive TEAM and start from the beginning on learning Defense -the full spectrum.
5. Send your girlfriend and whoever she wants to go on a summer tour vacation.

Thats where I'm at Dollar but honestly I just dont think Kat is interested. Kat to me seems like the guy who knows what to say at
the moment. Does he really want a chip? Is he willing to humble himself and transform his game?
I dont think so...

I believe Kat had a great season. Probably his best ever. He is arguably the 3rd or 4th best bigman in the game. But I would quickly trade him for Giannis if possible. And throw in Bridges ass in there too. They won't get a better deal than that for him.

I would agree that they have poor synergy. It's mostly like they're taking turns. But I think it's pretty crazy that Towns gets all the blame for this and not the guy that is running the offense.

KAT on, Brunson on: +4.42 Net, 1464 Minutes

KAT on, Brunson off: +9.11 Net, 1053 Minutes

Brunson on, KAT off: -0.84 Net, 837 Minutes

Knicks would be a 30 win team with KAT but not Brunson. GTFO.

I think losing weight would help his lateral movement and quickness on rotations.

I don't think Hakeem would help KAT offensively. He's just so flat footed, Hakeem can't teach footwork, you either have it or you don't.

Have you seen his girlfriend? Good luck with that  she is a certified baddie and I love that for him.

But we’ve seen this knucklehead play good defense in spurts. We’ve seen him both protect the rim and stay with guys on the perimeter. He’s capable, but will only do it every once in a while. That’s why his teammates get so pissed at him.

Almost anything can be taught or even a variation will help. Kat uses his elbow as a crutch to get by guys. I am sure Hakeem can hep him.
As far as his girlfriend...She needs to understand that so much is on the line for Kat and HER future. If she cant he can always get another one.

What's the chances of any player semi-"reinventing" themselves at this age? He's a 10 year vet at this point. Is there anyone that changed their bad habits after being in the league for so long?

It's not about the age...its about having an open mind...having belief and knowing HOW to do it.
We are all programmable at almost any age.
KAT is 29...I know fans like to think that thats old but its far from old...

Brunson is going to retire a Knick, better start figuring out how to put an improved team around him

Trading every pick for Bridges is what's going to hold the Knicks back imho,

My gut tells me the decision to trade for Bridges was directly tied to Brunson signing a lesser contract.

Bridges is one of his closest friends, and they all dreamed of playing together in the NBA. I wouldn't be surprised if Brunson said, "Get me Bridges and I'll agree to a lower contract to help the salary cap."

Maybe. I'm going to give Brunson the benefit of the doubt, he seems like a thoughtful smart guy who grew up around the league. He may have said we should get him, but to believe the threat was if we don't get him I'm demanding the max and hobbling the ability to improve seem unlikely. Again, getting Bridges on his contract was not the deathknell of this roster. It's effectively giving up SEVEN 1st round picks in an auction against no other bidders.

" 2025 1st round draft pick, a 2025 1st round draft pick, a 2025 2nd round draft pick, a 2027 1st round draft pick, a 2028 1st round draft pick, a 2029 1st round draft pick and a 2031 1st round draft pick. "

we effectively gave up Grimes in the deal ... a rotation 1st rounder. I can't fathom there was a 3 pick offer out there given Bridges was coming off a career worst year. CAA has no negotiating skills among teams, they just do what benefits the players.

This was what I said Brunson needed:
Brunson:
1.Link up with Kyrie and improve your ball handling. Period.
2. Build up your endurance.
3. Take your strength and conditioning to the next level. I recommend boxing.
4. Play with your core for the summer.
