Kind of puts the kibosh on the Bryant rumor.

You have 3 coaches that made it at least to the finals within the last 5 years. Monty would also be fun from the perspective that he was a rookie for the Knicks when I really got into Basketball and was still collecting cards.

No one on that list is any sort of upgrade over Thibs. They can't hire a retread. It has to be someone new or a truly great coach, and there isn't one out there, unless JVG wants the gig. Thibs has been basically been a clone of his, but I'd be willing to bet Van Gundy would look a lot different now than he did in his last HC gig. In the end it's likely going to be Bryant.

I don't think JVG works anymore in today's league, he hasn't been a headcoach for almost 20 years. Also it's a bit wild to say that none of them would be an upgrade over Thibs when 2 of them recently won a title. Taylor Jenkins was fired when his team was 44-29. To expect that some completely new head coach comes in and does a better job than any of those 4 I mentioned is extremely unlikely.

Who qualifies then in your eyes as a truly great head coach, if none of these 4 do? The other head coaches that won a title in the last 10 seasons are Mazzulla, Kerr, Vogel, Nurse & Lue. All of them are under contract besides Vogel and besides Kerr I wouldn't see any of them as a better candidate as Budenholzer or Malone.

Leon and the gang have completely revamped the roster over just the last two years. I.e., this FO is very willing and able to make the tough decisions (to include getting rid of Thibs).

I just hope they don't flub the new coaching hire--and choosing Malone would be a definite flub in my opinion.

LOL, just saw that Udoka and Kidd are candidates. Dolan really has a thing for former Guards that had public scandals related to women. Because it went so well with Isiah Thomas and Derek Fisher  .

This is the same guy who broke the Thibs firing:

He kept his mouth shut on specifics but 100% had the info before even Shams. He's telling us this is a boss move and that rules out some candidates who either aren't big names or are simply available, like Malone.

Hope he's correct here too.

Hiring Malone (or Kidd, etc.) would be a step backwards, imo.

Yep, I mean we just traded and replaced every single player that was on our roster at the start of the 22-23 season besides Brunson, Robinson and McBride, our FO is really super passive and stagnating  .

It'll be a very very Knicks thing to do. Lol

Fire Thibs ....... hire Malone/Kidd.

TBF , Malone is probably a good fit. East coast guy. Championship coach. Thibs lite.

The account I posted is 100% getting information from a highly connected source about the firing/hiring. At this point, I'd be less surprised if it was something completely out there but earth shattering like Spo than somebody who's clearly available and kind of a lateral move like Malone. Though I'd still be super surprised if it where Spo. As I said before, my money's on one of the two big college names. Wright or Hurley.

I believe he still will get paid in full for 2-3 more years by the Suns so he would be crazy to take a very stressful job in NY.
Having said that, he could accept a consultant job, do some research like what JVG did for Boston.

I'm very intrigued by Taylor Jenkins.
Has a 54% winning % belonging in the pretty tough Western Conference.
What is impressive imo is his team continued to be respectable even with Ja missing so many games.
I also want Mike Brown as assistant focusing on defense.
