This is something the mod team was discussing yesterday. About 10-12 years ago there was a conscious move towards aggregation, I think because every trade thought that popped into posters' heads became a thread topic and the board became difficult to navigate. But the aggregated threads are tougher to follow so maybe there's a balance. A thread for individual larger topics like a Thibs thread or a Durant thread that's separate keeps some of these ideas separate and conversations focused and consolidated. An "OT - How are we doing today" thread or "OT - what music are you listening to currently" thread might generate some conversations that wouldn't otherwise happen in a catchall. So there's some warmth towards opening back up if not a free for all like it once was.

TBH, I was surprised the mod team allowed one or two posters to enter a thread, hijack the conversation, and instigate/stir the pot with so many personal agendas. After 20 years on this board, I don't remember ever seeing things as bad as these past 8 months. I also never felt it necessary to put anyone on ignore until this past year, for the first time ever. If it was a turn-off for me, I'm sure it was for others.

I'm very happy to read this is all being addressed and that quality posting and a call for quality posters to return is the way forward. Thanks to the team for your hard work.

yeah, OT threads are lit. i love participating in them. put the OT in front and go to town. we'll let you know if it's out of bounds or whatever.

but talking non-ball life stuff respectfully is good for the forum IMO. but people not gonna feel safe doing that if they think they gonna get treated poorly. so long as we can maintain respect, why the hell not?
RIP magnumt

thanks for everything, thibs.

I learned the other day this isn’t the place to go if you’re a frustrated Knick fan and want to find like minded thoughts. I agree with everything else but anytime you have a few people deciding what is ok views and opinions that are all basketball related it’s a slippery slope. You guys have been an amazing place in 15 years I never went on another board but now am. I don’t envy you at all tough job to keep fun and also not allow racist, political or abusive things to take over.

Go RealGM. Go KNICKS!!!

Couldn't have said it better myself brother.

I've been here a long time as well and these last 2-3 seasons have just been getting less and less enjoyable to post here.

Like you said I never felt the need to put anyone on ignore on all my years, and that's probably why I didn't do it even though I should have in these recent years, would have saved myself a lot of headaches and reading nonsense. But I felt like I shouldn't have to cause I never had to before that.

These past few days have been wonderful on the board with great basketball discussions and still having the fun vibes and jokes.

Thank you to the mods for bringing the board back to its glory.

It was a nice and calm couple of days. I’m not quite over the fact that we didn’t beat Indiana, but at least the aftermath didn’t lack perspective. I was ridiculed quite a bit for believing in the Towns acquisition before and after it happened, so I’m happy things seem to have changed.

I think we’ll make the Finals next year even if we only get to make some minor changes like adding Horford and Divo. So let’s go. What’s new, however, is that I don’t feel the need to also state the obvious and say that I’d also welcome Giannis only because I’m currently very happy with the team we have.

Truth is people don't get attacked for OT stuff. It's contrary to popular opinion Knick stuff that creates the problems. STFU and GTFO were jokes that newer posters/mods started to take too seriously.

No, that's bullsh@t. People get dinged on all sides of arguments. The biggest problem we have within the community is posters constantly derailing threads with the same damn tired arguments. Especially when the derailments lead to personnel attack exchanges. If you're constantly talking about Randle in an ex-Knicks thread or in an Around thread when he's playing it's one thing. Every **** post game thread is another. Jesus, he's gone and people are trying to talk about the game. It's an off topic derailment unless we're playing the Wolves (RJ with the Raptors, etc.)

"Randle," of course, is a stand in for every argument that threads devolve into from what they're supposed to be about.

I personally think it's important to have spaces where conversations that people want to have are ON topic. That's what Hamsterdam is and I think there will be more threads like that. But they can't dominate every thread because posters who, say, want to talk about what happened in the game get lost and give up and leave.

You're proving my point. If someone brings up Randle they get dinged because people didn't like Randle. Nobody is getting dingrd for talking about Sinners or the last book they read. That's what an OT thread is.

I'm happy to see a bunch of people that joined here in 2005 or so post in this thread. Makes me feel young (**** - I was like 15 or so when I first joined lol).

I think I should post more often.

As a former mod I have to admit being a mod now is much more tougher than the old days, so mad respect to the current mod team.

As a long time poster (over 20 years wow) it would be more welcomed if this forum would be less Twitter and Reddit like, and more of a community to gather worldwide Knicks fans. It's definitely a tall task and probably depends more on posters than mods.

I’ve probably been guilty of derailing but hell half the time I make a longer posts I derail my self and ramble. I’m fighting the urge to just shut up right now.

I really love what you wrote and I think the current mods wouldn't say no. But it takes time, and when one poster attempts to derail or starts ad hominem attacks on others, it's hard for people to respond well and not just fight back.

That's why we have this thread, it's to draw a red line and prevent from people going too far and keeping most of us within this discussion board.

Thanks for your compliment though, I remembered back in the days my English was so broken while most of the posters still welcoming me and kept me around. :D

You're welcome. Is Chinese your first language, or is it British English? Either way, you've come a long way over they years with your English. I spend 24 hours/day with people for whom English wasn't a first language, so I've got a lot of experience with that (at home and work, so it's real).

I'm trying to GTFO more myself, but posting is a habit and this was a long season with plenty to unpack so here I am on a Sunday posting again.

Give it time and I'll do a better job and STFU

I don't think I can quit entirely though. My big problem is Thibs getting fired so soon lit a fire under my butt and renewed my expectations which is great for the franchise but unfortunate for my plans of abstinence
