This is something the mod team was discussing yesterday. About 10-12 years ago there was a conscious move towards aggregation, I think because every trade thought that popped into posters' heads became a thread topic and the board became difficult to navigate. But the aggregated threads are tougher to follow so maybe there's a balance. A thread for individual larger topics like a Thibs thread or a Durant thread that's separate keeps some of these ideas separate and conversations focused and consolidated. An "OT - How are we doing today" thread or "OT - what music are you listening to currently" thread might generate some conversations that wouldn't otherwise happen in a catchall. So there's some warmth towards opening back up if not a free for all like it once was.
