It looks like Garland wasn't in love with the idea of being traded, based on the timing of this news.

For the Cavs.

Trade gets a little big, but rosters are sure balanced…

To Nets: Barnes/#31

To Spurs: Gobert/Strus

To Cavs: Randle/Vassell/Dillingham/#17/Spurs future 1st

To Wolves: Garland/Allen

Mobley
Randle/#17
Hunter
Vassell/Okoro
Mitchell/Dillingham

Allen
Reid
McDaniels
Edwards
Garland

The main problem is that he is injury prone, only playing 70 or more in 1 season and 60 or more in 3.

Although, he is a poor defensive player and Wolves want to go from defence to offence. Particularly, I get tired of that Wolves teams fun to watch, with good offense and bad defense that lead to nowhere...

Hahaha not legal as a 2nd apron team, thankfully.

I wasn't going to say it but yeah that is terrible. Losing 3 starters and the 'prize' being 30 year old Randle is rough.

I dont want Randle, I want a wing that can compliment Don, someone like a Trey Murphy. A long guy that can play 2/3… Don/Trey/Max/ DeAndre/ Evan…

Also would love to have a stretch 4 like a McDaniels… which would make the starting lineup even better… if we could flip Allen and DG for Trey and McDaniels… itd make a lot more sense… it will complement our two best players in the best possible way.

If Garland can shoot at the percentages from 2pt and 3pt like he did this season and average 20 attempts per game, he will have a great deal of value. 15.7 attempts per game this season.

His productivity can be replaced with much cheaper options.

The Cavs still need a superstar talent. Maybe Molbey can be it.

Otherwise, package Garland, and more to find the missing piece(s) the roster needs.

I still think the best fit is OKC. They have the size where he wouldn't hurt them as much and are full of wings who can defend which would be attractive to Cle.

How about the bald eagle and Wiggins? Caruso would be a perfect fit next to Mitchell. Wiggins would give them a solid wing.

Why would OKC want Garland's contract on their books? Garland being listed at 6'1" lacks appeal.

Hunter is a bench player and Strus really truly should come off the bench too, especially with Jerome and Merrill most likely walking this summer, if trades happened.

The roster is mostly set, i think the Cavs hold steady for 1 more season and hope Garland is healed by game 1.

Garland/#49 (big old college kid)/CPJ
Mitchell/Okoro
Strus/Hunter/Tyson
Mobley/Wade/Okeke
Allen/#58 old college kid, maybe can shoot

They always leave spot 15 open, so maybe see if Green will re-sign for the vet min or if not, finally try to find an actual vet min back-up 5. Or knowing Koby they waste spot 14 on Tristan Kardashian for the 3rd season in a row.

He would give them another ballhandler next to SGA and someone who can create looks when he isn't on the court.

I don't think the money is a deal breaker since caruso and wiggins figure to make 30-35M during that same period. Is Caruso and Wiggins too much? Maybe just throwing out a potential fit.

Caruso and Wiggins isn't enough hahaha

Plus SGA hated playing with Giddey because he told Presti 'i am a PG'.

To be honest he’s not worth that much at all, an expiring or decent player on a cheap 2 year deal and a couple of firsts.

He can’t play defense at all and is constantly injured.

Are the Cavs looking to just shed salary here? It seems like a lot of teams are petrified of the 2nd apron and there are going to be a lot of these trades this offseason.

To Portland for Simons, Thybulle, #11?

Simons gives some of the shooting/scoring back, same age, a little bigger, expiring. Thybulle if healthy, and if injuries haven’t sapped his ability is a good defender, but is mainly expiring (I assume he’ll opt in to play for a contender).

Basically clears the long-term salary, gives some playable now pieces, and their favorite cost-controlled prospect at 11.

For Portland, they get a stronger play maker/assist guy to go with their young core, don’t lose anything in the scoring department, and get value out of their expirings.

Do I love it for either team? Not really, but we’re spitballing ideas and as I already posted, he’s tough to trade for both the Cavs and the receiving team.

Clippers trade: Kawhi Leonard

Trade successful!

The Cavs wouldn’t have traded for Hunter at the deadline if they were petrified of the 2nd apron. The Cavs have 2 years to get under it, and they have a few large contracts expiring at that time.

Garland is a 2x all-star at age 25. The Cavs aren’t looking to just dump him.

I wouldn’t trade those two for Garland if I were OKC, and I’d bet those two would make Cleveland into a better overall team.
