i don't think there's any way we would be able to pull this off and i assume the nets would be aiming higher than 12 if they're dangling johnson, but this report does make me think that there's a higher chance of us trading down than i previously expected
draft where there's perceived to be a talent dropoff somewhere around 8-10 + teams sitting at 15/16/19 willing to consolidate two firsts into a late lottery pick...conditions seem ripe for us to be in the mix there
Demin and Drake are the two players the Bulls have been most connected too.
IMO Johnson is exactly the wrong sort of player to add to the roster. Sure 3pt shooting is helpful, but we to focus on adding a 3-D POA or defensive/rim running C. It's almost like adding another Coby. I was surprised to see he's 29. What would folks think about Vuc + Pat + Terry + 12 + Por 1st for Claxton + Johnson + 19?
This would be a hit. Cam Johnson is one of those players I've seen do a few sit down interviews, and his basketball knowledge and thinking are tremendous. Not the best defender, but his BPM of 3.1 and career high 18.2 PER last year, I'll take him. Especially with Claxton, do you know his contract actually decreases each year and he's signed till 2028?
Giddey, Matas, Johnson, Claxton. If Giddey signs around $25 mil AAV, all 4 put together are about $75 mill on 2026 cap. We'd still have Coby, Huerter, Collins, Ball, Carter and picks if a big trade comes along. Targeting POA defender from SG position (Bane ?).
Pretty good deal for the Nets too. IMO they don't have young players the quality level of Giddey and Matas, and it lets them stack more assets and picks, plus Vuc expiring and they have time for Pat to rebound. He doesn't rebound year one, only helps them tank more. They took a chance on Ben Simmons for a long time, lol. They'd have enough firsts and roster spots to take the shotgun rookie approach.
Johnson and Claxton don't help as much for them if they're rebuilding. Both are good enough to hurt their tanking, both have money past next summer. Trade like this, they could grab 3-4 rookies in this draft or package some picks and get two higher rookies, tank next year and have a top pick plus a ton of cap space again.
