Everything is shaping up for Morey to play the Hornets like a fiddle and I’m here for it.

Ok the “sees himself as a PG” quote is giving me PTSD flashbacks. I need to re-evaluate my list now.

Otherwise, the stats are there even if they aren't perfect.
Height w/out shoes / Wingspan / Weight / Standing Reach
Jrue Holiday: 6' 3 ¼'' / 6' 7'' / 199.0 / 8' 4 ½
Derrick White: 6' 3 ¼'' / 6' 7 ½'' / 189.8 / 8'5 ½"
VJ Edgecombe: 6'4 / 6'7 ½" / 193.2 lbs and 8'5 ½"
He's still super raw on offense for his age, but he’s a special athlete, the defense will be a plus from day 1 & I buy into the shooting indicators long term.

If VJ was 6'8", he'd be the unanimous pick around here.
He'd probably be challenging Harper for #2.

This would be a welcomed turn of events.

People should watch some recent videos on VJ’s defense or listen to Nate Duncan. Hint: not good.

I think off ball he was ball watching a bit too much. I don't think that's a tough one to break the habit. He was one of the best at the top of the draft in ISO plays and PnR plays.

Jrue Holiday was picked #17 overall. Derrick White was picked #29 overall. And rightly so since while they're both good players, they are both no more than 3rd or 4th options on a contender.
Accordingly, VJ has no business being picked #3 overall. Trade down to the late lotto and that's a good place to take him.

So we're thinking the Hornets expending assets to swap spots with us so they can get Edgecombe? I don't know, feels unlikely.

Exactly. Unfortunately he is not 6'8" nor does he have a plus wingspan for his mediocre height, which is why he has no business being picked at #3.

He has some of the best dFG guarding the P&R & dFG defending iso's this millenia.
High level defense, shooting and connectivity/feel (A:TO) display him as a malleable and winning player from day 1, which is worth a top four selection in this draft class. I'm not sure Tre or Ace ever reach the impact of stage 1 VJ.

In a redrafts those are clear top five picks.

The report says Charlotte will most likely select Edgecombe at #4 if he's there and that Washington might want to move up for Edgecombe. Obviously depends on how bad both of these teams would want VJ, but certainly possible.Negrodamus wrote:Iverson Armband wrote:Everything is shaping up for Morey to play the Hornets like a fiddle and I’m here for it.

Why not? Seems like the next Jrue Holiday on steroids would fit in wonderfully next to LaMelo Ball..

Damn, VJ really would be a sick fit next to Melo (La).

Why would anyone want to trade up for Edgecombe when there's a perfectly good 6'9 superstar right there?
Morey is going to overthink it and let someone trade up to possibly steal Ace from right under our noses?

Arsenal wrote:Kon is a complementary player, not a primary playmaker. I'd be fine drafting him after a trade down, but absolutely not at #3 overall. That high you need to swing for a primary playmaker.
For Kneuppel's position, I agree that better shot creation is sort of his swing attribute that would vault him past being some kind of connective sniper high-end role player into Chris-Mullin-ish territory. Right now, it's fair to say that he's not an elite full-time NBA creator, though for context, absolutely nobody else at #3 is that right now either.
But the question is, can he realistically get there? He doesn't have the high-end athleticism of course. But he does have a great shooting ability, and decent handle/vision for his position.
So IMO, he really needs refinement in 2 things:

Aren't both of those completely realistic modest refinements of existing skills that he already possesses that are within a realistic development curve for a self-aware, disciplined guy who is by all accounts a very hard worker?
PS: I think we're all in agreement that regardless of who the pick is, we'd all ideally prefer the Sixers trade down and get more value if we love a guy and know he'll be there later. The ideal is to figure out who wants to draft somebody you don't want, and trade down with them.

Maybe I'm overthinking how much the crap team impacted Ace.
No, Rutgers was much worse than Ben's LSU team. FIVE players from that Tigers squad played in the NBA.
For this Rutgers team it will be Ace and Harper and that's it.
Of those 5 players how many of them are slated to go 2 and 3 in the draft?

That might be the case. I'm sure different teams have different rankings / tiers. I wouldn't say that either scenario (teams trading up or staying pat) are hard to believe.Negrodamus wrote:zaz102 wrote:The report says Charlotte will most likely select Edgecombe at #4 if he's there and that Washington might want to move up for Edgecombe. I'm pretty sure I'm a Tre guy at this point, so I would probably be most thrilled if they were able to trade back and pick him, but I'm trusting Morey at this point.
