More affordably I think Jrue may have some left in the tank for a similar slot.

And bonus, as Jrue has a tie to Finch from New Orleans (previous connections are a running theme for all Minnesota trades under the current regime, if non-Minnesota fans were not aware).

Portland out: Simons, Grant, 11
Portland in: Anthony, Isaac, Klay, Marshall, 16, 22

Dallas out: Klay, Gafford, Marshall, LAL 2029 1st
Dallas in: Grant, 11

Orlando out: Anthony, Isaac, 16, 25
Orlando in: Simons, LAL 2029 1st

Atlanta out: 22
Atlanta in: Gafford, 25

Portland trade back and get out of last year of grant's deal. can deal marshall to TPE elsehwere for more savings
Dallas take on grants deal to turn the LAL 1st into a lotto pick for a PG/playmaker
Orlando upgrade offense and roll forward asset
Atlanta trade back a bit to get a C platoon

I'm out, no reason for Mavs to willingly take on Grant contract...

yeah hate that one for Dallas. Get worse on the court, give up a future asset all for a guy so unlikely to help this year while being saddled with Grant and the loss of flexibility.

Seems crazy good for Orlando who upgrades their biggest need and turns two meh picks into a pick with real upside. They suck a lot of value out of this deal.

I had 25 = Simons and 16 = 2029 LAL 1st. Dont think they are stealing value.

I think the trade is worth it for dallas if Jak is available.. i like his fit on dallas

Yeah I'd have that salary and 25 not enough for Simons. 16 and the LAL 1st having similar value seems about right to me, with guys like you who value mid 1sts now probably siding with it and guys like me who don't value mid 1sts much but want big upside swings siding with the latter.

I think portland fans thought expirings and 25 is about right, or KCP and 16 if longer term salary. Maybe owes a feel seconds, but i dont think Simons warrant a mid 1st

I'd much rather have the Jazz keep the better player in Collins and the flexibility of his expiring money than to take on Vassell"s contract.

Is Collins the better player? Vassell went from being really overrated here, to apparently worse than a one-way PF who probably doesn't start on a good team, all in 12 months.

If Collins is a one way player what's Vassell, a half of a one way player? Worse on defense than Collins this season and a far worse offensive player both this season and over their careers as a whole.

Does a Bane to Detroit move make sense?

Something centered on Ivey/Holland/multiple 1sts

10. Washington
11. Kyrie
12. Lively
13. AD
14 Flagg

I think that's how the team would view it maybe? But 3-6 can all probably be rearranged in some fashion and 7 and 8 might be flipped. Williams would be higher but he makes so little and they need cheap contributors so stuck him at 6. Kyrie and Lively should maybe be flipped.

jayjaysee or Khalil will probably have a different order, but this how I think the team would see them.

Thanks. Trying to see the most palatable Jrue package, in case that wasn't blatantly obvious. :)

My sweet spot is something like Gafford, Marshall and Martin. Or sub Powell/Hardy for Martin. But, going in reverse that's your 6 and 8 rotation guys you wanna keep, which makes it tough.

If you are right then I hope Dallas is serious in their pursuit of him. Because Dallas can scrounge up that value and if Isaac can be used as matching so can Klay.

Jabari Smith is on the final year of his rookie scale, making $12.35 mil.

What do you think his next contract will look like?

57 GM, 30.1 MPG, 12.2 PPG, 35.4 3P%, 7.0 RB, 1.1 AST

rockets want to sign him for <25, his camp will aim for 30+... they will likely go into RFA

It's not so much that. My order definitely isn't their rotation spots exactly, but if it were, I'd give up 6 and 8 for a guy who'd be 4th I think. The issue would be more about losing 3 frontcourt guys in one fell swoop. Lively/AD/Washington/Flagg is great but that's only 4 guys for 3 spots and 2 of them miss a lot of games and one is a rookie.

I think the sweet spot for Dallas has to involve Klay Thompson. Unless Dallas just wants to play Jrue at the 3 a bunch which isn't the worst idea, but still I think on the Dallas end moving Klay makes the most sense. But of course I understand deals have to make sense for other teams too, so I might not get my preference. :D

I wouldn't be comfortable with him making over 20. He has interesting qualities but the sustained impact hasn't been there to justify serious money. He most often performs like a decent bench big, and if we're handing out 25-30 million for that we're taking an unreasonable gamble, IMO.

But we did it with Jalen...

Yeah, I was with you and that's kinda what I've thought when I put it together - rough on your frontcount. I am playing with something like:

BOS: Jrue, Tillman, KP for Klay, Marshall, Mann, Niang
DAL: Klay, Martin, Marshall for Jrue, Tillman
ATL: KP, Martin for Mann, Niang

Seems more palatable on DAL end. I could throw ATL Hauser as well if they want to add that much salary.
BOS could probably move Niang for roughly free / maybe a 2nd back? Marshall is who I want. Mann is solid and fairly priced. But, that seems about as little as I'd want back talent wise from the summer moves. Klay can help Tatum with Achilles advice or be moved at some point.

This is BOS ducking 2nd apron, not the tax world.

EDIT: Probably too good for DAL. This could still be palatable for DAL and better for BOS/ATL

BOS: Jrue, Tillman, 28 for Klay, Hardy, 22
DAL: Gafford, Klay, Hardy for Jrue, Tillman
ATL: Gafford, 28 for 22

I had to look up his FGP; that's 35.4% on threes. Still not great (below league average), but not as atrocious as it looked.

He's okay, but not worth committing a large percentage of your cap. Is he an NTMLE guy in the new league economy? I'm sure he wants more, but the Rockets would be wise to save the money for a real difference maker.
