We are talking about winning a championship and it is true it is not ideal to have your top 2 players both be defensively deficient unless you devise a way to work around it.
So you either trade one of them (and we know that won't be Brunson) or you devise a way to make it work.
I think because they love KAT and still believe in all his other elite characteristics their plan A is to figure out how to make it work. Its why I love the JJJ (or Giannis) idea.
I also think you could do it albeit on a bit of a lower level with Mitch but the mitch issue is extreme injury proneness, lack of offense and FT shooting and with him also being on last year of his deal.
I get it but we aren’t getting any player like that for free so the question then becomes what are we losing in the process?
If it’s just Mikal, sure fine he’s easily replaced. OG, not so much. I don’t think any trade for a high caliber player like that is coming cheap so it’s not like we can just add pieces like that to what is already in place so then the question becomes what holes are we creating in other areas?
If it's true Orlando has Issacs on the block along with its two first round picks, we could trade Mikal - they want a rotational guy and their backcourt is light - and we could use the picks on the St. Joes 6'9" guy and the Sorber center guy to give us instant bigs on the bench. That could complement JB & KAT with a new coach mixing and matching throughout the games.
I don’t know much about this draft class so I have no idea if that’s a good gamble or not. I would think they would want some more vets though instead of rookies.
