Re: Return to Sender: The Mark Williams Thread
Don't we have a year before we have to pay him? Also, his $$$$ value right now is possibly the lowest it'll ever be if his injuries aren't going to be long term. Might not be a bad idea to lock him in now for something more cost conscious.

Re: Return to Sender: The Mark Williams Thread
If he is gonna give us an injury risk/home team discount then sure sign him up. If not, I would explore trades.
I am not sure if he will regain his rookie year foot speed and shot blocking abilities.
Overall- The deal with the Lakers was fair to all and one they are probably regretting not doing now that they are getting exposed by the Twolves.

Just a reminder that 7ft centers with a soft touch and 99%tile reach who can reliably shoot free throws and finish around the rim don't grow on trees.

what do you consider a "discount" to be?
Even with the injury concerns, I'm going up to 4/80M or 5/100M with some games played triggered guarantees on years 4 and 5 and see if he bites. And before anyone balks at $20M/year... if Mark doesn't sign any extension, becomes a FA in 2026, the MLE would be 4 years $70M... $17.5M a year.
I think he's comfortably the second most impactful player on the team, and should only improve. He is way ahead of schedule for someone who's only played 106 career games and has had a critical offseason completely lost to injury.
investigate Adam Silver

Vuc, Jarrett Allen, Poeltl all make around 20, I think Mark would come in lower than that even with cap going up.
Somewhere in the 14-17 million range would probably be a fair value, but due to injury concerns I might try to keep it shorter with a team option on the deal. Onyeka, Rob Williams, Wendell Carter, Mitchell Robinson types all make 14-20 million.
So my early offer would be 3/45 with 3rd year as team option. If he declines then okay I will reevaluate if he puts together a good year and stays healthy but locking up 30 million guaranteed for him considering his injury history seems pretty fair.

3/50 seems like a good offer. If they know he isn't really that hurt 3/60 is ok too.

I doubt he signs for anything under $18 million per year.

Re: Return to Sender: The Mark Williams Thread
Once Mark debuted this year, he played in 44 of 62 games, or 70%. That would have been a 58 game season.
You can make the case that he could have played more and the team handled him with kid gloves most of the year.
If he can average 60-65 games over the next 4 years I can live with that, most guys are going to miss 10-15 games in todays NBA regardless.

Absolutely. I am PRO Mark Williams…give him the opportunity to be a key part of the solution.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Good news is that he hasn’t had any offseason “clean up surgery” or whatever it’s called. Fully healthy and can’t lift some damn weights for a few months.

It's funny you think that
Off-season with Lee ain't gonna be nothing but kombucha and ayahuasca trips

in breaking news Mark Williams dropped a dumbbell onto his foot badly fracturing it.
He is expected to be in a moon boot for at least 6 months

Hope he didn’t tear a ligament while banging on the plexiglass. Geez Mark, all this talk of your value and possible trades, and you didn’t go out with your bubble wrap on
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Did he try to catch a puck?
Mark's injuries get found out in the weirdest ways too. The foot thing was discovered when someone randomly saw him walk out of a hospital in a boot or something and now this?

Re: Return to Sender: The Mark Williams Thread
Where does one even go in the middle of a hockey game to get a splint added to your thumb? Did he go to the hockey arena infirmary during intermission? Does the arena have a minute clinic? Or was this a preexisting thumb injury that he had before he arrived. And maybe halfway through the game he pulled a splint out of his pocket and put it on his thumb because he forgot to wear it. so random.
