It started with the introduction of our new GM Ainge Jr. He was asked if the Jazz would purposely tank. He said no and we would always put out a team to win and compete.
Of course he said that. No GM would say they are going to tank. People latched onto that and thought it meant we are in a win now trade for good player mode. We aren’t. All it signaled to Jazz fans who know what’s going on is that Clarkson, Sexton, Collins and possibly even Lauri will all be gone and we will lose because we are young and not play the fake injury weird lineup game we did this season.
This last year was year 1 of our tank. We’re gonna be a bottom five team at least the next two years. And probably still in the lottery in 3 years. After that we should in theory have enough young talent and hopefully some of it has matured well enough we can bring in vets.
The Jazz are probably the single best team to take on bad contracts like Dame and PG. My hope is we get both this season for draft capital and tell those guys to take the whole year off and podcast or whatever. Then they can be veteran leaders and if they show something in a season or two that a team starts to want them back on their team we can look to trade them or they can stay on the team and expire in X amount of years.
Long way of saying the Jazz aren’t looking to add a guy like Bridges. It would be a complete waste and I would be furious if we did something so stupid. So in a vacuum people can think Jazz fans are crazy for wanting to keep Kessler over Bridges but I agree 100%. We want young guys and unprotected FRP’s. That’s about it. No reason to add a guy like Bridges. Maybe in 3-4 years we start to make moves like that.
