Ingrams one pass away #s were good apparently as well
Where did Blake say this? Also I’ve been saying Ingram’s playmaking is what’s going to impress or surprise people about him that most. People love to do the Ingram and Pascal comparison, well playmaking is the one area he’s definitely better than Pascal. And it’s not like Pascal was a bad playmaker or selfish at all so it’s saying something.
I think this is a good thing to look forward to, the one down side is that there is only one ball. Both of them can't do it, and if anything stuff like this is why RJ (unless he comes off the bench) is redundant with BI.
Well it’s clear RJ is going to get traded eventually. He doesn’t seem to be in their plans for the future. It might not happen this offseason but it will happen, so we won’t have to worry about that forever. BUT I don’t think it hurts to have multiple guys who can handle the ball, play-make a bit and get into the paint. It’s actually one of the things that makes Pacers so hard to guard and so good even if they don’t have the stereotypical “number 1” option. And this is not me saying we are as good or close to as good as the Pacers bc we are not.
It’s just that against really good defensive teams only having 1 or 2 guys who can get into the paint and play make, or continue advantages by attacking and either scoring or playmaking is tough. Just as you can never have too many shooters, I also think in todays’ NBA you can never have too many ball handlers/playmakers. One guy can’t do it all because then teams will just focus on that one guy and get the ball out of their hands.
And as good as Pacers are at shooting, the paint touches are what gets them those good looks from 3. It all starts with their ability to get into the paint. RJ is good-great at that one skill and he’s actually a better off ball player than on ball. BI creating an advantage for RJ is perfect for his game, bc RJ needs someone to create that advantage for him to get easy driving lanes in the paint (which should hopefully improve his efficiency in there next season).
RJ is not someone who can get into the paint off a standstill consistently. It’s probably why his pick and roll with Jakob was one of the only good above average offensive plays we had last season. Jakob sets great screens that get RJ that head start he needs bc once RJ gets into the paint his last step is really good and he has the strength to muscle through guys. Then he improved his playmaking so he was hitting guys for a lot of good looks off that pick and roll. It’s also why Darko’s offensive system was so good for him because he always had him moving off curls or getting a running start to the paint. And a guys like BI can create those advantages for him along with the system itself.
But hey I know you hate RJ’s game so me saying all this to you is probably a waste of time haha. I know you don’t see it this way and that’s fine. Agree to disagree.
