There's no reason for players not to do this. Teams have shown time and again they have next to no loyalty to their players - players should respond in kind.

I get it but I disagree. They have a contract to play, not play where they prefer. If they want a say in where they play, negotiate a no trade clause like Beal did.

100%. Use your leverage. Your team doesn't have your back, so why should you have theirs?

Who's saying he won't show up to play out his contract if he gets traded to a team he doesn't want to go to?

Because they signed a contract to play for said team, not one of the 29 "others" in the league..
And because they're not the General Manager, President or Owner of said team.

PW and Jevon Carter are crap, though. So "salary flexibility and the 12th pick for RJ despite us almost 100% not getting Giannis" becomes that trade.

I don't care about their role, tbh. The team has indicated that they want to trade him though, so this isn't a "just man up and finish your contract" situation, it's one where everyone appears on the same page.

Then there's nothing to discuss.

I hear you, though. There are definitely times where players are like "omg, I'm a year into my contract and things aren't going to plan and I wanna leave because it's HARD."

I'm less down with that, but obviously there's a balance between "THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS FREE AGENCY" and "players can do whatever they want" which isn't the easiest to find, you know?

I don’t think that was said by anyone.

sidsid wrote:The issue has got to be finding a way to trade RJ. The Suns likely want IQ and Jak, and that creates some role problems on our end.

Finding a way to turn RJ into other pieces, when I assume he's only upped his value to neutral is the difficult piece. And the 9th pick and how you can leverage that in these tandem trades is another one (potential trade down scenarios).

Jak+IQ is there, but Masai wants 9+RJ to bring something to balance things out (the Blazers rumour for example).

Jak was never on the table. Its RJ + IQ + #9, these are the assetts that Masai is willing to give up.

Oh, I wasn't agreeing with anything you said my friend.
It just sounded like your stance was a box, without leaving much room for discussion
(and that's perfectly fine)

Cheers.

Ok, so if he fulfills his contract, then what's the problem really?

He's essentially telling certain teams don't waste your resources on me, I am a FA next season and want to pick a destination where I see a long term fit.

I understand that you weren't agreeing with me; that's why I put the second part out there, because I can at least appreciate part of why you disagree with me. :)
