I imagine this deal will make Phoenix that much more willing to trade Beal for Paul George if such a trade came up. And that opens up the possibility of trading up to #3, absorbing Paul George, and then swapping him for Beal.

Phoenix could actually look like a fairly capable team if they draft CMB at #10 who should mesh well with Jabari Smith:

My bad. I thought they did. Man, without Jabari, that's a pretty bad trade for Houston. I guess there really wasn't a market for Durant.

Can't blame them for going for it but I wouldn't trade #10 a draft like this unless I thought I could improve my playoff chances a lot and I don't think Houston really did with this move. Brooks and Green aren't particularly great but I think as much as KD gives you offensively you lose defensively and in the amount of minutes and games he's able to play over the course of a season. Green and Brooks played 75+ games each. And on top of that KD is about to be a free agent and is gonna want the max money he can get for his final contract. Probably 60+ mil a season.

With this CBA you should really do your best to build organically until you've got no other choice and I think Houston got impatient. They've got enough assets to still be successful but I would be wary about this if I were a Houston fan.

Houston gets out of 100 million after 2025/2026. Green probably has negative value at this point, given his contract.

Phoenix takes on a ton of future money and still doesn’t own their 2027 pick (owed to Houston). Now has 3 highly paid players that play the same position. They are about to turn into the Tommy Sheppard/Bradley Beal Wizards and simply tread water for 2 years.

Sadly, they probably do. They're overloaded at forward, but the only guards they have are VanVleet and Sheppard.

Trade Poole to the Suns. Give them an all undersized shooting guard lineup, half of them former wizards. Hope they hire Scott Brooks to actually run that lineup.

In the end, the Suns valued the number of picks and high picks, over reasonably good players who could keep them as a mid-tier team. This probably means that they are expecting to tank, and it also means that they will be trading as many of their assets as they can for more picks.
