Yes, but taxland doesn't trigger hard caps. Certain transactions made do.

Scoot McGroot wrote:Nope! The window for transactions triggering the hard caps starts “the day after the last day of the regular season”, and runs through the following season. As in, if you make a trade at the draft that triggers the hard caps, that hard cap will be in place for both the remainder of that season (a couple days until July 1), but also the following season.

Could they make a player trade tonight and turn in the 2nd round trade tomorrow and avoid tax?

Tax for the 24/25 season? Those salary/tax numbers are frozen on the last day of the regular season, and they can't enter the tax for the just finished season.

For next season? They can absolutely enter deeper into the tax, and have up until the last day of the 25/26 season to make moves to change that.

Am I understanding that the tax calculation and the apron limitations are separate?

Yes. ALL incentives, earned and unearned count against the aprons. And the apron levels only really matter if you make certain transactions that trigger a hard cap at those apron levels. Otherwise, the tax levels are assigned on brackets independently of the apron levels.

This is what I thought they would do with the Nets for #36.

Yang went 16. Huge climb after the combine.

Tank 1 season, get the next flag and own 2027. It's a business, simple.

If Raynaud falls to the 2nd, that could be pretty interesting...

Even #1 overall picks don't have as surefire a percentage of panning out as I'd want to go this route. And there's no guarantee of getting that

I did a quick dive on Raynaud vs Kalkbrenner and Raynaud comes out as the better rebounder, offensive player, and more fluid movement 5. He just sounds much better rounded than any 5’s left. So if the Pacers are truly interested in a 5 and they want to move up for Raynaud would the Timberwolves need picks 38 plus 54 ? Is that an underpay or overpay ? Timberwolves took a 5 in the first round so not sure if they need another 5, a 4, or will even be open to a deal to move back ?

If the Pacers go all in for trading up then I guess they might give up on a point guard upgrade ? Not sure if Ryan Nembhard will go undrafted due to his height and we could sign him as a undrafted free agent ?

I am glad. I was not high on bringing him here at all.
