Ayton is horrible. Definitely not a Raptor-type player.

They will probably try and trade Ayton to the Lakers for crap and 2nd picks.

salary wise, there's no good matches for ayton. even if you want to use rj, we need to make up a 7 mil gap in salaries which means we'd have to send out ochai or gradey too - which is a no go.

RW3 makes mle money which means we'd have to trade some of our rookies too. that's a no-go too.

If Charlote takes all of Ochai without giving back salary for a pick to draft Fleming, does that open up the full MLE to get Kornet?

Though they might just run smallball.

PG IQ - Shead - JaKobe
SG Barrett - JaKobe - Battle
SF Ingram - Dick - Mogbo
PF Barnes - CMB - Fleming

Gotta think Celtics are prioritizing Kornet this offseason with Porzingis gone, but maybe I'm wrong. He would be ideal backup C for us though.

Celtics got under the 2nd apron and I read that they saved like $200 million. :o

They are still a tax repeater and would only have the tax repeater MLE which is half. If we do the Ochai trade and use the full MLE on Kornet and stay under the tax you can view the trade as:

Ochai for Rasheer Fleming and Luke Kornet, which makes it much more appealing. It also makes Boston even weaker to leap frog in the standings.

Short answer is no. Ochai being replaced with a 2nd round rookie salary would mean freeing up about 5M under the tax - so more like the taxpayer MLE amount of money, though they could offer more term by technically using part of their full MLE. They'd also likely be using small chunks of the MLE to sign their 2nd rounders to keep their year 1 salaries at the bare minimum. Still, only 5M or so in wiggle room under the tax.

I wonder if there’s a world in which we can steal Naz Reid from the Wolves in a sign and trade.

Barrett

For

Reid

Reid/poetl
Scottie/Ochai
Ingram/CMB
Dick/walter
Quickley/shead

Team makes a lot more sense

Do we have the cap space to sign Looney?

I'd love him as a backup center.

I wonder if Minny bites on Ochai and 39 for Miller and 31. I really think Raynaud makes for a great backup and we can give Miller a chance to shine. For Minny, this gives them insurance in case NAW leaves

The backup center plan is Day'Ron Sharpe.

Teams gauging the trade market for a backup center are monitoring Day’Ron Sharpe, who’s expected to return soon from a hamstring injury for the Nets. With Noah Clowney out for at least a couple of weeks with a sprained ankle, it’s an opportunity for the 23-year-old Sharpe to jump back into the rotation immediately. Sharpe, who’s eligible for restricted free agency this summer, is being monitored by the Grizzlies, Clippers, Pelicans, Lakers, and Raptors, league sources told HoopsHype.

Would be post-RJ trade presumably (Malik Monk or Collin Sexton?). John Collins could be an alternative but that doesn't free up much in the way of additional cap space.

My prediction....Ochai+Lawson for Goga.

Salaries match
Orlando needs shooting, like us
They value defense
They have M Wagner coming back so have 2 C's

Ochai's value is 3+D...well Martin replaces that D and we shall see about D.
Walter improved every month on his 3pt shooting and shot over 40% the last 2 months of season. And he stepped up his D when we re-focused on it.
Goga signed for 2 years on a declining contract...8.3 then 7.6. Then maybe Chomche ready.
Castleton waived and we add another "vet" at min. Or kept if they have seen progress in him since season ended.

Goga didn't play much in the playoffs for Orlando as they went small. But Raps could use him to keep Yak fresher...and hopefully limit games missed.

Idea:

To Toronto: Cam Johnson + Robert Williams
To Portland: Ochai Agbaji + Colin Castleton
To Brooklyn: RJ Barrett + Cash (TOR)

It’s basically cap neutral for us for this year. We get a shooter that probably fits better on the team with a shot blocking C.

Portland gets a promising wing for their C glut. Save some cap long term

Brooklyn gets younger, Toronto sends cash to cover some of the $ they are taking on up front. Maybe a 2nd or something needs to go to Brooklyn also.

IQ / Shead / Hepburn
Ingram / Walter / Martin
Johnson / Dick / Battle
Barnes / CMB / Mogbo
Poeltl / Williams / Chomche

It’s pretty balanced I feel. Another option is the magic

To Toronto: Cam Johnson + Goga Bitadze
To Orlando: Ochai Agabji + Maxwell Lewis
To Brooklyn: RJ Barrett + TOR 2026 2nd + Cash

This version we save 4.5 million against the tax to fill out the roster which I kind of like more

Q / Shead
Ingram / Walter
Johnson / Dick
Barnes / CMB / Mogbo
Poeltl / Bitadze

Add some vets and depth pieces and I think your looking good.

2 expiring vets that help now. A young big to add to the Scottie timeline
I'd prefer to keep Stew and give Monte Morris
I'd really prefer to keep Morris and Stew and give the great Killian Hayes and 2nd round picks

Day'Ron is a great guess. RFA. Can we give him partial MLE?

Can we S&T for a future 2nd rounder or two?

Go over the tax, and make a trade mid year if things aren't worth it.

Brooklyn has too many guards I think they can get better for Cam. If Toronto could pull that off you got to do the deal. Williams is washed he can't stay healthy and don't like the money owed to him I easily take Goga

We better be sniffing around cam whitmore. Not entirely sure who we would trade for him. But I’d guess one of walter, agbaji or dick. Doubt the rockets take Barrett as they are looking for a lockdown defender, plus not even sure how the money would work for that. I’d love instant offence off the bench though, cam could be our norman powell.
